Living The High Life in a Luxury Treehouse at Chewton Glen

August 22, 2016

I can’t think of many occasions in my life where I couldn’t come up with even the slightest suggestion for improvement after a weekend away. Yet my boyfriend Alex and I left our stay at Chewton Glen drawing blanks when we asked ourselves this question. We literally couldn’t come up with anything that we felt could have improved our visit. Our stay at Chewton Glen blew us away, completely surpassing all of our expectations. From start to finish it was a luxurious vacation experience, with exceptional attention to detail being paid to all aspects of our stay.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, Chewton Glen is a luxury country house hotel and spa set within 130 acres of Hampshire countryside on the edge of the New Forest National Park, just a few minutes walk from the sea. A very special place, Chewton Glen is a member of Relais & Châteaux, one of the finest luxury hotels in the UK and has also been voted ‘Best UK Holiday Hotel’ and is listed as one of the ‘World’s Best Hotels’by Conde Nast Traveller readers.

Whilst the Chewton Glen Hotel offers a beautiful selection of rooms and suites, my boyfriend Alex and I stayed in one of their treehouse suites which make for a very unique experience. Built high among the trees of a secluded valley, each treehouse offers an unforgettable setting for unwinding, relaxing and getting away from it all. The interiors let nature in, huge windows give a panoramic view through the canopy to the valley below. The treehouses are hidden within the grounds of Chewton Glen in a wooded valley around 200-400 metres from the main hotel. It is an easy stroll down to the hotel’s main facilities or simply call reception and a driver will come and collect you in a golf buggy.

Each treehouse suite provides a compact kitchenette which is fully stocked with a delicious range of chocolates, cereals, fruit, cookies and a lovely selection of teas, fruit juices and organic beers in the fridge. Upon our arrival we were treated to a bottle of champagne on ice and an array of mini cake loafs and home made cookies. We headed straight out to the first balcony which was decked out with sunloungers, glass tables, chairs and a Villeroy & Boch hot tub. There was also a second balcony from the bedroom.

We loved the modern and stylish Tree house décor and little touches throughout the suite, a miniature chess set, woodburner, jars mini of marshmallows and chocolate buttons to create a delicious hot chocolate, Ren toiletries in the bathroom and a TV you can watch whilst soaking in the roll top bath tub. Relaxing in our own private bubbling hot tub looking up at the stars at night with a glass of bubbly was a treat we couldn’t get enough of.

Every morning breakfast is delivered to your suite in a stay-fresh hamper via a special hatch, meaning you are not disturbed in the morning. The Hampers include a gorgeous range of pastries, muffins, fresh fruit, yogurt, bread. Fish, cheeses, meat and cereals. Everything you could want for the most delicious breakfast is included.

The treehouse living experience was so luxurious it was hard to leave our suite, but Chewton Glen has so much on offer Alex and I made the most of the hotel’s facilities. We both enjoyed an incredibly relaxing treatment in the spa, I opted for a seaweed body wrap with heavenly scalp massage, whilst Alex chose a full body massage. During our stay we played both indoor and outdoor tennis in the professional sized courts and also enjoyed a round of golf and a fun game of table tennis. The grounds are so beautiful we enjoyed many walks, one of which takes you past a stunning waterfall and leads straight to the beach. There is just so much to do with both an outdoor and indoor pool, a state of the art gym, croquet lawn and relaxing spa facilities including a hydrotherapy pool.

Mountain bikes can be hired free of charge and there are some fantastic rides to choose from around the vast natural beauty of the new forest. Chewton Glen has everything you need to hand, so you needn’t worry if you don’t have your own rackets or clubs. They even have a selection of Hunter Wellies you can borrow case it gets a bit muddy in the Forrest.

The Chewton Glen country hotel is absolutely charming with a 200 year history set within immaculate grounds. Every evening we ventured down from our treehouse to enjoy a delicious cocktail followed by a sumptuous three course meal in the main restaurant. We simply could not fault the food, service or ambiance.

We found the staff at Chewton Glen to be incredibly attentive and welcoming, you are truly made to feel as though nothing is too much trouble. Our two nights and three full days at Chewton Glen can only be described as divine, but for us it was simply not long enough. Even though we packed so much activity into our stay we felt we had only scratched the surface as Chewton Glen offers so much to see and do. We cannot wait to return to return later in the year and plan to bring back family and friends as we know they will be completely in awe of the place as we are.

As a child I always dreamed of having my own treehouse, so a stay in one of the Chewton Glen treehouse suites really did offer something quite magical and unique. If you are looking for a luxurious British retreat to get away from it all then I think you would be hard pressed to find a better destination than Chewton Glen, it really does have it all. Hands down the best staycation myself and Alex have ever experienced, simply unforgettable.
