Aphia Sakyi – Afrocentric accessories for the bold and confident
Aphia Sakyi is an Afrocentric fashion accessories brand with an edgy touch of class, beauty and passion for style, the fine details and outstanding creativity in each design tell it all. From its signature rope necklaces to handbags, beaded accessories and others, each collection has an exceptional blend of designs and elements that make the contemporary woman feel fiercely bold and confident.
The name and essence of the brand was inspired by African art and culture, and also by its Creative Director and CEO, Magdalene Aphia SakyI, who made an unorthodox decision to passionately pursue her unflinching desire for fashion design over a degree in Business Administration, a decision she will relish forever.
After years of hard work and great determination, Magdalene’s unique designs gained international recognition when music icon, Janet Jackson, featured a stunning neckpiece from the brand’s “50 Shades of Print” collection in a captivating video choreographed in honour of her legendary brother, Michael Jackson. The brand has also accessorised distinguished clients including American hip-hop star Ciara, Her Royal Highness Princess Haifa Faisal of Saudi Arabia, Leddy Young, Tarana J. Burke, Tiffany Haddish, Lika Osipova, Maye Musk, Yvonne Okoro, En Vogue, The Lion King musical, and many other celebrities around the world.
Now a well-established fashion entrepreneur, Magdalene manages her own fashion design school along with her fashion label in Accra and encourages skill acquisition through apprenticeship. She has successfully groomed 50 aspiring fashion designers through her school and aspires to mentor and train more talented young designers across the continent.
The Aphia Sakyi brand has received accolades including the “2018 Accessory Brand of the Year” award at the Ghana Fashion Honours Awards. It has also been featured on the runways of AFI Cape Town Fashion Week, Accra Fashion Week, Passion for Fashion Showcase and the Africa Fashion Week, London.
