These photographic pieces explore the unique geological formations found in Audemars Piguet’s home, the Vallée de Joux in the Jura Mountains.
By referencing the epic timescales by which these rock formations were formed, the works will invite the viewer to reimagine their relationship with time.
” There’s an interesting aspect to the nature of this landscape, which, in a way, exported time around the world. I thought it was captivating, this element of technology and this very primal landscape, a powerful combination to make photographs. ” ~ Dan Holdsworth, Photographer ~
Audemars Piguet is delighted to announce that Chilean designer Sebastian Errazuriz create the Swiss watchmaker’s evolved lounge for Art Basel’s 2017 shows, which will display a new watch and savoir-faire exhibition to be unveiled at Art Basel in Hong Kong.
For the second consecutive year, Sebastian Errazuriz has created a lounge inspired by Swiss watchmaker’s home in the Vallée de Joux.
Interview with Olivier Audemars – Artist, Sebastian Errazuriz
Olivier Audemars, Vice President of the Board of Directors, said “ We are delighted to continue working with Sebastian Errazuriz this year. Through his attention to detail and understanding of artistic excellence, technical mastery, tradition, innovation, and of course, nature, he has again achieved a design that transports the essence of the Vallée de Joux into the Art Basel lounge. ”
His new design has evolved from the previous year’s ice formations to a space made mostly of warm materials such as wood, which reminds the visitor of the vast forests in the Jura Mountains, symbolising Audemars Piguet’s deep sense of history and endless growth.
The concept of ” Second Nature ” follows the development of a tree, as the ice tank has now ” melted ” to give space to a beautiful sculpture. Its a testimony to the brand’s past, present and future but also to the act of recreating what nature generates so effortlessly, encouraging us to value and appreciate the world around us.
Art Basel in Hong Kong shows the initial stage of the tree, which has been created using both traditional and cutting-edge methods, from traditional hand drawn sketches to digital fabrication devices.
The tree sculpture exhibited on the lounge has been created using both traditional and cutting-edge methods, from traditional hand drawn sketches to digital fabrication devices such as computer milling and 3D printing.
Art Basel in Hong Kong will show the initial stage of the tree with bare branches while the following editions of the show will see the lounge evolve with the seasons.

Artist, Sebastian Errazuriz said “ Second Nature should remind the viewer of the basic principles of Audemars Piguet’s watchmaking legacy including its home in the Vallée de Joux.
The strong base of the tree sculpture is grounded on core values and the deep roots are embedded in history, yet the tips of its branches reach out and are always growing, exploring and searching towards the future.
It is the perfect example of Audemars Piguet’s commitment to helping artists and designers bring to life the visions they imagine. ”
Some stories are akin to legends. Passed down from generation to generation, they cross the centuries untouched, shaping their extraordinary destinies. In the field of haute horlogerie and creativity Audemars Piguet has been writing its legend since 1875.
Masters of the watchmaking art and true visionaries, Jules Louis Ademars and Edward Auguste Piguet infused the brand with enduring values that have remained the source of its success from its origins through to the present day.
A business still in the hands of its founding families, Audemars Piguet is endowed with a unique spirit of independence.
Respectful of the watchmaking art and loyal to the spirit of the Vallée de Joux, the Manufacture produces distinctive, exclusive watches that are equally beautiful inside and out.
These complex and refined models are hand-assembled and finished by passionately dedicated watchmakers determined to give their very best.
While each of the collections has its own distinctive personality, they all testify to our brand’s ancestral expertise and its capacity for innovation.
