Ayllu – Peruvian-Japanese fusion serving contemporary cuisine
We have just enjoyed simply the most spectacular evening in Paddington Central at Ayllu. This is the most unusual combination of cuisines, a perfect mix, Sushi and Peruvian. It sounds odd I know, one cuisine from the west and one from the east, but believe me, it works.
We began with a huge selection of sushi, including ceviches, some sashimi, nigiri and maki, and to be honest I could eat this all day every day. The texture, taste and freshness of each piece was outstanding, I am a real connoisseur when it comes to sushi and this was simply the best. The presentation was artist and exciting and my tastebuds were doing a little dance on my tongue before I even began these sumptuous delights. You know when something is so delicious that you don’t want it to end, you want to re-order immediately and re-book for the next evening!
Next came the Peruvian course, this was how we chose to dine, you don’t have to combine both cuisines, but we did. There were four of us and we chose different dishes between us, we love to share and sample each other’s choices. Pork Belly served with butter bean puree, fennel and onion salad was one dish, Pollito Picante which was marinated baby chicken served with lemon dressing and grilled vegetable another, then we also had the sautéed strips of flat iron steak served with hand-cut chips, soya sauce, tomato, onions and rice and finally crispy chicken with fried rice, vegetables, eggs, soya sauce and yuzu juice. The dishes were all piping hot, perfectly presented and completely delicious. For dessert after a short break, we all decided the pallet cleansing Mochi ice cream was in order, it was a refreshingly perfect end to a superb evening and came in three flavours – Tropical, coconut and green tea.
This evening was so special, the décor was stunning and with the plush deep green leather banquette seating and soft romantic lighting we felt completely relaxed. The artwork and wall coverings gave an eclectic and interesting ambience and the atmosphere was buzzing. We, as all of our fellow diners were treated like kings, the service was exceptional, the staff friendly and knowledgeable and most importantly at his strange moment in time, all COVID-19 government recommendations were strictly adhered to.
We will be back!
