Bucket Notting Hill, fresh fish and so much more

Sustainably sourced fresh innovative seafood is the main game here at Bucket in Westbourne Grove and in such beautifully relaxed surroundings.

After a full heavy business day of meetings all we wanted was to enjoy a nice cold beer, some delicious food in a comfortable and easy-going restaurant.

Bucket in the Westbourne Grove area is a real find, this was apparent by the fact it was full of locals, obviously privvy to the ambience and deliciousness of the fishy fun cuisine.

The menu changes daily according to the availability of fresh fish and shellfish, the chef decides on the day exactly what he will prepare as ‘specials of the day’ to run alongside the regular dishes. The menu is simple and does offer one or two choices other than those that come from the ocean, but how could we go with anything but fish.

We began with salt-crusted bread and butter while we enjoyed our first drink and checked out the menu, while having a good look at the other guest’s choices, but this was no help as it all looked so temptingly gorgeous. We were not in a hurry, so with our drink choices and menu in hand, we slumped down into the soft cushiony seating, I almost honestly rearranged the cushions to make a little bed, it was so comfy and inviting, but we had a job at hand, choices to be made.

We began with a small bucket of mixed seafood, deep-fried whitebait, soft shell crab and veggies with chilli to share and Tuna Crudo with avocado, sesame and soy, it was absolutely perfect and two fabulous dishes, ideal for sharing.

We had a little break before deciding on our main courses, but we were already quite full, so we decided to go with a few more starters, we tried the popcorn shellfish in a bucket,  the Piri-Piri prawns with smashed avocado and green chilli, Three Bucket Sliders one of fish finger and mushy peas, one of soft shell crab and chilli jam and one of spicy crayfish and prawn burger and finally Sea bass ceviche with pomegranate, grapefruit, red onion, chilli and coriander. We spent a long time enjoying these stunningly fresh dishes, each and every one was fabulous and it’s always fun to share. The sliders were like mini burgers with interesting and flavoursome fillings, the prawns were succulent and juicy and the popcorn shellfish delicate and light.

Guests can enjoy innovative, fresh flavours from the Raw menu, including Chalk Stream trout tartare with pickled apple, kohlrabi, cucumber and dill.  Small plates ordered for the table include Baked scallop with garlic and parsley crumb and romesco sauce; Artichoke hummus with artichoke crisps and dukkah; Steamed razor clam, butter beans. From the Grill menu, guests can order the catch of the day specials, or opt to tuck into a mixed grill for two, which includes a selection of the freshest fish available that day.

We very nearly didn’t have a dessert but well it seemed rude not to when the choices were so tempting, so we squeezed in the Dark chocolate mousse with white chocolate shavings and honeycomb, and the Apple tart with vanilla ice cream, of course, we shared again. Both desserts were just the most perfect way to end our Bucket experience.

Bucket has a relaxed vibe, the service was great, cheery knowledgable waiting staff is always a bonus and together with super food this really is a great dining option for the fish lovers amongst you.
