Can Lluc – the other side of Ibiza
Palm trees, bougainvillea, lavender, hibiscus, olive, carob, lemon, orange, lilac and fig trees are just a small part of what makes this luxury boutique resort so very special. Can Lluc can be described as Heaven on Earth, in my personal opinion and our fellow guests. Tucked away in the countryside near the quaint Ibizan village of San Rafal, surrounded by luscious hillside forestry lies Can Lluc.
In 2000, married pair Tina Soriano and Lucas Prats began entertaining the idea of their estate one day becoming home to one of Ibiza’s most magical ag-ritourism outfits. With local architect José Torres at their side, the two set about transforming the old ranch home of José Prats Costa, Lucas’s grandfather, into a boutique hotel in the heart of the Ibiza countryside. And so the transformation began and it still continues to grow yearly.
Can Lluc has 20 rooms and villas, the rooms can sleep up to four, two adults with two children on a sofa bed and the villas the same.
We were lucky enough to be staying in a modern large and bright, extremely comfortable villa, with a spacious terrace and it’s own pretty private garden, with views to die for and a huge daybed. We were surrounded by nature and it was the ideal spot to totally relax, the ambience is akin to a health retreat, and in actual fact there is a small gym, sauna and jacuzzi and yoga is available twice a week on the lawn.
The villa includes a small well equipped kitchen, although the dining here is so good it really doesn’t warrant it, and the staff will bring you anything you fancy, within reason, we enjoyed several lunches at the restaurant beside the pool, a platter of Iberico ham, salami, cheeses, specially infused butter, delicious bread and tomatoes and of course lunch wouldn’t be complete without a glass of ice cold San Miguel.
The villas are designed with comfort in mind, the shower rooms are huge, the double sinks, fluffy towels, hairdryers, slippers and beautiful smellies. The beds are low and extremely comfortable with crisp white linen and soft pillows.
Our terrace provided the perfect spot to work when we’d had enough sun by the pool, surrounded by the aroma of bougainvillea, it was the most instagrammable area. The private garden was a pure delight too, with the daybed under the trees giving a little dappled shade, a wonderful space to enjoy that essential pre dinner aperatif.
The pool area has an assortment of sun loungers and day beds and the tall palms offer shade when the sun becomes too much. One day we watched a Christian Dior shoot take place by the pool, probably due to the stunning location and in fact there was a film shoot the week before for a British Netflix series.
Can Lluc can perfectly cater to the corporate world, the event space is practical and offers a panoramic view, bespoke business space, dining, technical facilities and is ideal for business, personal occasions such as birthday celebrations or anniversaries, but to me it’s the most amazing location for a wedding. The Event Room itself is a square of which only two sides are covered. At the centre of this geometric figure, the space is alternately left open and protected by awnings. The catering staff are well versed to provide the exact requirements, bespoke to your personal desires. The flora at Can Lluc is spectacular, but mostly what draws returning guests is the hospitality of the owners Tina and Lucas, always on hand to ensure your stay is just as you’d like.
Dining at Can Lluc is a culinary experience on Ibizan levels of extreme taste, it’s tough not to choose the paella every evening, so we worked our way through he small but delicious menu, and every meal was a delight. The setting of the restaurant outside enveloped by colourful and aromatic foliage created a most romantic air.
All in all Can Lluc is a super boutique resort, the ambience is relaxing, the dining superb, the staff extremely friendly and the accommodation amazing.
