Nestled inside the heart of The Cotswolds is the small village of Cold Aston and home to The Plough Inn.

Passionate about the food, the owners offer a varied menu. In addition, a place to eat with comfort or formality depending o the occasion. Candlelit on an evening the lounge area with the log fire is a comfortable setting. It perfectly creates an atmosphere you would expect on a cold evening in The Cotswolds. The dining room is brighter lit and offers more seating.

Stay at The Plough Inn

There are plenty of reasons to want to stay at The Plough Inn. Each room has it’s own character and they have three en-suite rooms available.

We stayed in the Notgrove room. An on-suite double room that had all the character of the grade two listed building. The property has been renovated with a modern flair yet keeps its character. The building has kept all of it’s original beams. Rooms are comfortable and peaceful with no noises to be heard from outside. The hotel walls are very thick. If you are looking for an uninterrupted sleep then you are in for a treat.

The room comes equipped with the best quality of linens and fully equipped with coffee and tea making facilities. The mattress was soft and we enjoyed a comfortable night’s sleep.

The bathroom is a brilliant size and has a bath and a shower. Soft fluffy white towels and luxury toiletries from 100 Acres were included in all rooms. 100 Acres toiletries are all-natural with the essential oils enhancing therapeutic qualities.

The Restaurant

On the menu, you will find locally sourced and the best quality of ingredients, with a selection of meat and fish, the menu has something to offer for all. The heritage beetroot and whipped goats curd, perfectly presented and delicious was the starter of choice for me, my partner decided on the tomato, red onion and chickpea soup was creamy in texture with a lovely hint of pepper.

Next up was the main course. The 30+ day aged ruby red steaks were on offer and hard to resist. With an option of hanger or Sirloin, we both had the sirloin. Cooked perfectly to liking the steaks came with a selection of sauces. We both chose the blue cheese and truffle sauce and with the Truffle Macaroni Cheese as an extra, they perfectly complemented the succulent steaks. We had a little break before dessert and opted for the treacle tart which was sweet and light, the crumble was crunchy the way it should be, it was served with a sweet custard with a hint of ginger.

The Bar and Hospitality

The bar offers a great selection of wines, beers and gins from around the world. Due to the Plough Inn being a small family-run establishment, the family members are often on hand to help and give recommendations, which is useful since the drinks selection changes regularly.

The Breakfast

Set in the dining room, the patio doors and sunroof allow the bright room to be the perfect setting. Table set with homemade jams and a newspaper help you to prepare for the day or journey ahead. The owners are up at the crack of dawn to welcome you at breakfast and offer you anything you may like to eat. The full English breakfast was fueling, the sausages were lovely.

Rooms start at £80 per night and the ideal price for the superb location. Close enough to explore The Cotswolds by foot if you are a walker. If you drive you are close to lots of beautiful villages to stop by, there’s plenty to do and see in this stunning part of the country.
