GAME CHANGER; TULCHAN, THE SCOTTISH HUNTING LODGE, REOPENS AFTER MULTI-MILLION MAKEOVER
Cairngorms, is upping the luxury ante with a stylish newly renovated lodge, unprecedented service and a wealth of sporting pursuits.
Opening to guests in September 2018, the 22,000-acre estate affords some of the best shooting, fishing and vistas that Scotland has to offer and has played host to many Royal guests, including King Edward VII, King George V and King George VI.
Following a multi-million refurbishment, Tulchan is one of the most striking bucolic fixes for travellers seeking new frontiers or for those hunting for the tranquillity delivered by wide expanses of sky and land in the pictorial Scottish Highlands. Gone are the days of guests spending a weekend of field sports in a drafty lodge with no central heating and poor water pressure; Tulchan is intent on offering a blend of character and comfort.
At Tulchan, every detail has been considered to make it the benchmark for the 21st century…from the interior design to the Estate-grown and locally sourced produce; Tulchan is the best example of what modern Scottish estates have to offer.
Transforming the lodge is prolific interior design company, Nicholas Haslam Ltd; internationally renowned for their striking, original and glamorous interiors. The lodge’s listed status has meant a respectful and delicate renovation, with many original features – from the paneling in the former library to artwork being restored – telling the story of the house through the years. They have created an incredible property that will be at the centre of the estate for many years to come.
At the heart of the estate is the Tulchan Club, a 14 bedroom, private members club. Only 25 members will be accepted and will be able to entertain up to 28 of their friends in ultimate Scottish luxury.
A full household staff will provide members and their guests with a home away from home experience with an indulgence of service and the luxury of a 5* hotel.
The experience begins at the airport when Tulchan’s fleet of Range Rovers greets members with their resident butler, providing the most discerning of guests with a level of personalised service that exceed their expectations.
The estate offers a myriad of sporting pursuits on acres of private land from grouse shooting, Roe deer stalking and salmon fishing on the River Spey; careful management of the whole river system and its tributaries has ensured that Tulchan water continues to offer unforgettable fishing for both salmon and sea trout. The estate is also renowned for its world-class pheasant shooting, with the varied terrain providing the keen shot with a variety of challenges.
With the glorious Scottish countryside on Tulchan’s doorstep there is also plenty to do for those guests looking to explore their breathtaking surroundings. There is a fantastic network of picturesque walks on Tulchan Estate, exploring the glens, Trout Lake, woodland and open moorland. Longer routes take you into the hills and the wilder parts of the Cairngorms, neighbouring castles and historic mills in which to explore the art of tartan weaving are just a few of the many available activities. Tulchan’s concierge team will arrange all daily excursions. For something more relaxed, guests can enjoy a calming treatment in the Tulchan Spa.
After working up an appetite, members and their guests can enjoy an evening meal in the lodge’s private dining room. The local ingredients will be made extraordinary by the skill of Tulchan’s resident chef, drawing on his vast culinary experience from some of the top restaurants and private members clubs in the world, to create exciting seasonal menus while catering to the needs of every member. Guests can then unwind with an aperitif and cigar by the wood burning fire in the clubs drawing room – the stuff of sportsmen’s and nature lovers’ dreams.
The Tulchan Estate Farm is where much of the produce is grown and reared to supply guests with the best possible ingredients for everything from meals in the lodge through to a stunning picnic out on the grouse moor with not a person or building in sight. Home bred Aberdeen Angus and Wagyu Beef, 80 day free range chickens, eggs, dairy and non-dairy produce, honey, homemade breads, herbs, and season-stretching greenhouse will ensure vegetables will be grown on the estate throughout the year.
Conservation is at the centre of everything that happens on the estate. From employment within the local community, through to ensuring that the moorland and forests are preserved for future generations, the Tulchan team is passionate about protecting this iconic land and its surroundings environments.
Membership (by application only) to Tulchan Estate will include exclusive access to the shooting opportunities and the lodge, and starts at £95,000 per year. The estate offers intense privacy and boasts classic Scottish architecture fronted with modern standards of luxury. With the Club’s sumptuous accommodation, members and their guests will enjoy unrivalled service from a staff of leaders in their field ensuring that every request will be met.
Tulchan fishing is made up of eight miles of beautiful double bank salmon fishing on the world-renowned River Spey. The four six rod beats, which make up the fishing, are available to both members and non-members alike. Estate cottages and Knocktulchan, Tulchan’s smaller sister lodge, are available to rent for non-members with all catering requirements taken care of.
