Göcek a hidden Paradise in Turkey
March 24, 2017
A hidden paradise of the Mediterranean known as Göcek, is home to a most extraordinary hotel. Boasting an archipelago of beautiful islands and a luxurious, yacht dotted marina, D Resort Göcek is a stunning destination with a backdrop of dramatic forest-clad mountain ranges unique coves, picturesque islands, fascinating historical sites, superb beaches and traditional market towns – this is undiscovered and unspoilt Turkey at its very best.
And although it’s surrounded by natural beauty and history, Göcek is easily accessible, a mere 20 minutes drive from the Dalaman airport. I am headed there for some much needed sunshine. Here the weather is exceptional. Göcek experiences an average of 300 days of sunshine a year.
There is a lot on offer here. The ultra-stylish hotel is an elegant boutique hotel set across ten design-led buildings with 103 spectacular rooms, lush gardens, calming waterways, three gourmet restaurants, bars, ESPA spa and fitness centre, and outstanding meeting & events facilities. Each room is dressed in crisp whites and navy blue.
Just 100 meters from Göcek harbour and five minutes walk from the private beach – you feel relaxed from the moment you arrive. Borrow a complimentary bike or meander into the quaint village of Göcek, charter the hotel owned luxury speedboat or sit and watch the incredible yachts pulling into the very glamorous harbour, this is a hotel for those who love the water. I am staying in a pool suite – with access to a gorgeous, enormous pool from my spacious balcony. Those with more energy can go sightseeing at the nearby ancient ruins or opt for some physical exertion at the hotel’s secluded beach with the incredible water sports facilities on offer. D-Resort Göcek’s Breeze restaurant is nestled on a private white sand beach, offering the freshest fish, seafood and local fruits and vegetables; a delightful combination of the finest Aegean cuisine amidst stunning views of Göcek Bay, the marinas and Mediterranean Sea.
Their spa is a must see. Home to a state of the art gym and fitness area with exceptional mountain ranges views, I am particularly in love with their luxury hammam. Resplendent with the finest Turkish marble, private abachi saunas, steam room, vitality pool, single and double treatment rooms with mini bath, an outdoor relaxation area with plunge pool and an entire floor dedicated to traditional and Asian massages, it’s all pretty amazing.
I have my daughter with me and here there are happy surprises for smaller guests, with a focus on children friendly amenities, meals and special attention. In the evenings, it’s grown up time however, and I fall immediately in love with their chic new Q Lounge. Located on the top of a hill, the sofa dressed night spot has incredible sea and islands views, Japanese influenced cocktails and a menu of sushi, sashimi and robatayaki served in tapas style in a relaxed music filled lounge environment.
It is the holiday of my dreams – each and every moment is one I will savour. And after a spate of recent headlines, I’m so glad I decided that it was time to go back to Turkey. This is truly the Mediterranean at its very best.
