Hard Rock stands alone as a haven for music lovers and cultural explorers alike

In the heart of London, in plain view of The Marble Arch, two large flags emblazoned with the iconic words ‘Hard Rock’ fly from the side of a large and impressive building, the most recent addition to the Hard Rock Hotel Family in London.

From the moment we arrived at the large glass doors, we felt like rock stars. Attentive doormen welcomed us with huge smiles, offering to assist us with our luggage. As we entered the golden lobby, the walls were lined with Rock & Roll memorabilia at every turn, including Ed Sheeran’s Nike Sneakers, Eric Clapton’s denim jacket, an SG guitar signed by AD/DC and Freddie Mercury’s first-ever piano. Rock & Roll music was playing at a slightly louder volume than your average hotel (though nothing too intrusive) and energy filled the entire place. This is not your regular hotel. This hotel has an attitude. I knew we were in for an exciting stay.

Our eyes were drawn to an incredible lighting display above the front desk, where hundreds of drumsticks are hung vertically from the ceiling with fibre-optic lighting at the tips, giving the illusion that the drumsticks are alive, impressive, quirky and beautiful – all at the same time.

When we arrived, we were escorted behind the front desk to the “Rock Royalty” lounge to check-in, where we were immediately offered a drink of our choice. Staff were friendly and attentive, asking us where we had travelled from. The check-in process was swift and pleasant. Before being escorted to our room, we were informed of the times in which our food and drink would be served in the Rock Royalty lounge.

We took the lift to the Rock Royalty floor and entered our luxurious and very quirky room, fully air-conditioned and spotless, with an impressive white marble bathroom and branded Hard Rock amenities. The lavish room was perfect for a rock star – the full-length mirror was marked with the height of several of the world’s biggest music stars, rock music was being played from the wall-hung television, soft robes were hung in the wardrobe with complimentary slippers to match. The Hypnos bed was unbelievably comfortable, even the pristine white bedsheets had tiny embroidered guitars.

When we had showered (with the super-powerful rainfall shower) and changed into our evening wear, we took the lift back down to the Rock Royalty lounge where we were served a glass of champagne each and a platter of exquisite canapés including garlic pitted olives, mini filo tarts with feta cheese & mini tomato Bruschetta. The perfect starter before we sat down to enjoy our American themed rock star dinner.

Our champagne glasses were topped up and we sat for a while enjoying the relaxing ambience of the Rock Royalty lounge, admiring the original artwork and the fantastic geometric mirrored ceilings.

Heading back out into the lobby and walking past yet more impressive memorabilia, you can find the energetic restaurant & bar. The bar sits in the centre of the lobby and has an impressive lighting feature on the ceiling with colour changing bulbs that sweep around the entire bar. Opposite the bar is, of course, the stage, where “Legends come to play”. We had the pleasure of listening to the beautiful country trio Remember Monday, who you may have seen on the popular singing contest The Voice.

Staff at the bar were dressed immaculately in swanky uniforms, incredibly passionate about living and breathing the Hard Rock vibe, joining in the party, again taking interest in us and our stay. Even the Cocktails here have rock star names, and we ordered one each, a Big Ka-Blue-Na and a Purple Haze which were not only delicious but time and effort had gone into ensuring they were presented to us impeccably with a beaming smile.

We sat down in a humungous booth to view the American-style menu. I’m talking burgers, wings, steaks, & ribs. Our stomachs did the talking and I ordered a huge burger. It arrived oversized, cooked to perfection and encased in a beautiful brioche bun. Excellently presented, oozing with taste. The portion sizes were incredibly generous and served promptly. If you want to fill your stomach after a busy day in the city you will not be disappointed with the Hard Rock Hotel restaurant.

The American theme doesn’t stop at the main meals. The choice of desserts, milkshakes and sundaes is utterly mouthwatering. I was well and truly beaten by my burger so opted for an after-dinner glass of wine instead. But for anyone with a sweet tooth – this menu will tick every one of your boxes and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

After dinner, once the band had finished their set, we took a stroll around the stage to view yet more impressive memorabilia, dotted everywhere yet not overbearing Almost like a museum but one that leaves you feeling incredible star struck!

We then decided in true Rock Star style to have one more ‘for the road’ and ordered one last cocktail each. (One Bahama Mama and one Hurricane.) Again served with excellent precision and service.

When we headed back to our room for the night, part of our ‘Rock Royalty’ service was the evening room turndown. The curtains were drawn, the sheet neatly folded back & lights dimmed. My favourite touch was the complimentary air guitar and souvenir plectrum laid out for us as we arrived back in the room!

I slept so well in this room. Although we were a stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of Marble Arch, not a sound was heard through the entirely soundproof windows. The Hypnos beds were absolutely beautiful. Exhausted after such a fun evening and filling meal, the moment my head touched the pillow my lights were out!

With a check out time of 11 am, we were in no hurry to wake up from our sleep; we had a slow morning in our robes and made our way downstairs around 9 am ready for our breakfast buffet. The buffet was presented surrounding the entire crescent-shaped stage with the drum kit centre stage.

The choice at breakfast was magnificent. Starting with beautiful fresh fruit, continental meats & cheeses, pastries, a huge range of cereals, breakfast muffins and cakes, toast, various spreads and jams and I haven’t even mentioned the cooked breakfast yet.

How do you like your eggs in the morning? It doesn’t matter because at the Hard Rock Hotel you can have them cooked any way you like. Along with bacon, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns, baked beans & all the condiments you could name. There was a wide range of breakfast fruit juices to choose from. I don’t know how I had any room after my burger the night before but I managed to find space.

We checked out, with a beautiful smile from the reception staff in the Rock Royalty lounge, and left with the feeling that no other hotel will top the energy, attitude, quirky vibe that we got from this stay. We will definitely be returning.
