Hot Stone Steak and Sushi, authentic Japanese cuisine in Islington
Transported to what looks like an authentic restaurant down a side street in Japan and into the open arms of what felt like a family home, every guest is greeted with an uplifting welcome by the row of sushi chefs.
Hot Stone Steak and Sushi has quickly become my favourite Japanese spot. The quality of the food is excellent as is the presentation of every dish. The attention to detail is absolutely perfect and the service exceptional.
Whether you’re just popping in for delicious cocktails and sushi at the bar or sitting down in the main part of the restaurant, Hot Stone is an experience. It is one of the very few London restaurants that offer its own fresh wasabi. As someone who loves Japanese dishes but isn’t very educated on the cuisine, I was delighted by the extensive knowledge offered by the waiters as we enjoyed a 4-course meal. Each course an array of mouthwatering flavours, vibrant colours and unique textures. We devoured fresh oysters, sashimi, carpaccio, maki rolls an impressive selection of sushi made and presented to us by the head chef himself and of course the famous ‘hot stone’. Every bite light and delicate, each dish more tempting than the last.
The highlight of our evening was, of course, the hot stone, the do it yourself experience is remarkable. With the options of a wide selection of tasty fresh produce including Wagu beef, scallops, king prawns and vegetables which you cook yourself with guidance if needed right in front of you.
It’s no surprise the restaurant was previously voted the best sushi in London. The Executive Head Chef Padam Raj Rai has extensive culinary knowledge with 17 yrs of experience in Japanese cuisine. Padam Raj Rai was the former head sushi chef at Tsukiji restaurant in Mayfair and has previously worked in some of the most prestigious Japanese kitchens in the heart of London including Sake no Hana, Zuma and Nobu.
At the top of Islington’s humble Chapel Market is a hidden gem. Expect a casual dress code and a warm friendly atmosphere, if you visit ensure to order the lychee martinis, they are also an absolute must-have!
