How to Dress for a Yacht Party
January 31, 2019
So, you’ve been invited to a yacht party, but the question is, what on earth do you wear? Unless you’re a regular at this type of event, you might need some pointers in the right direction when it comes to putting together the perfect outfit. Yacht parties are a little bit different compared to your average night out on the town or going to the club with a group of friends. Your trusty LBD might not make the cut this time. But, don’t worry – we’ve got everything that you need to make sure that you look and feel amazing.
When dressing for a yacht party, you want to look sophisticated, but still casual and comfortable. Think nautical style and a little preppy, which could be a whole new world for anyone who’s never been to a yacht party before. Read on for our outfit tips!
Bright Colours and Prints
Don’t hide away when it comes to putting your outfit together. Bold prints and bright colours are always welcome on a yacht party. A brightly patterned dress is a great idea but keep the cut simple – it’s a great way to show off your fun side whilst still keeping in line with the preppy, nautical style. Choosing bright colours means that they will stand out against the white of the boat and the blue of the sea, which always looks fantastic in photographs.
If you’re looking for an outfit that’s simple to wear and easy to put together, then you really can’t go wrong with nautical stripes. A blue and white striped shirt dress with a simple belt is a classy ensemble but also casual and comfortable enough for you to wear whilst partying out on the water.
Choosing the Right Shoes
Once you’ve decided on an outfit, the next step is to finish off the look with the right accessories. Your shoes are a very important factor, as not only will these add the finishing touches to your ensemble, they’re also crucial for staying comfortable. It’s perfectly acceptable to wear cute but comfortable sandals to a yacht party, but if you want to add some length to your legs and give your outfit an even classier look then nude, white or black high heels are a great idea too. However, avoid heels that are too high, as they’re difficult to walk in on board. If you’ve decided to go with bright prints and colours for your outfit, keeping your shoes simple will ensure the attention stays on your dress. Or, if you want added height with practicality on top, a pair of wedges will do the trick just fine.
When it comes to choosing accessories to add to your yacht party outfit, there’s a huge number of ideas that you could try. Classy pearls are ideal, and they pair perfectly with nautical stripes or a traditionally preppy outfit. If you really want to make your outfit stand out, coloured pearls are a great idea; pastel blues and pinks are popular choices, but you could go for any colour that you like. Keep your eye out for pearl jewellery that incorporates a nautical touch such as an anchor pendant. If pearls aren’t your thing, you could opt to keep your jewellery simple and classy or make a statement with nautical-inspired bracelets, necklaces, and earrings.
The last thing that you want is to find yourself chilled to the bone on the sea, so don’t forget to think about the ‘covering up’ element of your outfit. A draped tunic that’s easy to pull on is a great solution, or you might want to go for a light wrap that you can pull over your shoulders when you feel the cold.
Styling Your Hair
In addition to your outfit, styling your hair appropriately is important. Consider the weather at sea when you choose a hairstyle; although it may be calm and clear on land right now, the wind can quickly change when you get out onto the ocean and the last thing you want is windswept unmanageable hair. Beachy curls are a great idea, as they will still look great in the wind, or you could play it safe and tie your hair up into a classic ponytail or classy, messy bun.
Last but not least, finish off your look with a bag that matches your outfit but is large enough to carry everything that you need whilst partying at sea. Chances are you will need plenty of sunscreen, lip balm, and something to tie your hair back if the wind changes. A small tote bag will do the job perfectly, or you might want to opt for a classy backpack to make for easier carrying on board.
