Hyatt Centric La Rosière the ultimate mountain get-away

As the global editor of Luxuria Lifestyle International when I was recently approached by Hyatt to experience one of the groups top luxury ski hotels in the French Alps, being keen skiers my family and I jumped at the chance.

Oh my word!!! How I ached for the first few days of our ski trip, thank goodness for our spacious, luxurious suite, with those amazing views of the French Alps and especially grateful for the huge bath full of bubbles and the Dead Sea salt. Once the aches had eased with a good soaking, I was actually able to move and dressing for dinner was a pleasure.

First, let me describe our suite, it featured two lovely bedrooms and a luxurious shower with a separate WC, and plenty of wardrobe space. Our suite featured a super-Kingsize bed in one room and twin beds in the other, perfect for our family of four, suitable even for our 20 and 28-year-olds. The suite was beautifully warm and the décor stylish, supremely comfortable and rustic. The soft furnishings ensured a home-from-home ambience, essential for aprés ski relaxation.

Our suite included all of the most important little add-ons such as a kettle, a Nespresso coffee machine, mini-fridge, smellies, fluffy robes, slippers, wifi and most impressively an amazing mountain view, we watched the sunset and sunrise every day.

Following our days on the slopes, our evenings were spent in the hotel restaurant, thankfully we had full-board, so the need to go out when we were all skied-out were not required, although it was lovely to venture into the pretty town for an after-dinner drink, just a five minute walk away.

Dining in the hotel was such a treat, the service and food were absolutely first-class, the menu was terrific. Breakfast took place in H40 Bar, buffet style, perfect to set you up for a day of energetic activity. Lunch and dinner here were casual brasserie-style, the steaks and chicken, in particular, were amazing, always steaming hot,  we found ourselves eating here almost every evening.

The H40 Bar with its huge fireplace was a superb space, comfy and cosy for pre or post-dinner drinks, the hot chocolate was just super and once a week there is a ‘happy hour’ when beer and wine is half price, everyone descends on the bar this evening creating a great après-ski atmosphere.  The specially selected wine list offers originals wines from France, Switzerland, Austria, South-Africa, New-Zealand, ensuring all tastebuds are catered to. Sebastian, the new food and beverage manager runs a tight ship and has seamlessly slipped into his role. Sebastian describes himself as a determined and highly motivated person and this is evident, he ensures the ambience in the bar and restaurant is relaxed with a sophisticated air, he’s a true professional and looks after each guest as if they were dining in a private catered chalet.

Our skiing experience in La Rosière set at 1850m was just wonderful, with beautiful scenery, efficient lifts and a wide variety of runs, more than 7.000 acres of slopes were waiting for us and we were lucky the snow was fresh deep and bashed to perfection every day! The hotel is perfectly situated with the closest chair lift, the “Eucherts Express” just 100 meters away. It is accessible from the hotel ski room, which provides well-equipped heated private lockers for all of the ski hardware,  so everything is perfectly dry for the next day. Our skiing was made all the more spectacular by the fact that we could hire our equipment from the Olympic Sports ski shop located in the hotel and expertly run by Zach who patiently equipped us with the very best brand new skis, poles, boots and helmets, ensuring our time on the mountain was comfortable and safe from the beginning, he gauged our ski level and requirements to a tee!  Olympic Sports provide the latest ski equipment whether you’re a beginner, freerider or expert, with four rental and retail locations in the town.

Most evenings before dinner to help our muscles recover, we spent a good hour in the hotel’s Summit Spa, the heat of the jacuzzi and sauna followed by a dip in the pool was so beneficial, the stiffness of muscles rarely used was greatly alleviated by the alternating hot and cold therapy, and the outdoor jacuzzi is a must!

Summit Spa Hyatt Centric Hotel, La Rosière is the pinnacle of relaxation. Truly somewhere special with the stylish and chic ambience and ‘to die for’ panorama. It entices you to let go and unwind. Pure Altitude products have been carefully chosen to compliment the spa treatments as they luxuriously encapsulate the mountains and surrounding countryside. We also treated ourselves to a couple of treatments, a massage and a facial, which were superb.

We honestly found there were not enough hours in the day, there was so much to do in La Rosière, apart from the skiing and using the spa, there was ice skating, snowshoe walking, bowling, extreme luge, dog sledging and night time skiing, fitting the dining and drinking in was tough!

But if you do find you fancy a day off of skiing or boarding Evolution 2 provide a superbly efficient and exciting range of trips( as well as ski and snowboarding lessons). We had a fun and informative hour in La Rosière dog sledging, we learned about the dogs, how they are cared for, their living conditions and all about the individual characters of these strong happy half hunting half-husky dogs. They live to work it seems, as a keen animal lover it was a tough ask to sit on a sleigh while being pulled by eight of these magnificent creatures, but we were reassured they love it and it was obvious they did, their wagging tails told that story.

Evolution 2 is a ski school and outdoor specialist based in La Rosière Centre and Les Eucherts. Whatever your level or your needs, their instructors will help you progress and share their playground with you. They are able to arrange all manner of exciting excursions, such as dog sledge rides, ski and snowboarding lessons for all levels, scenic helicopter rides and Paret.

If you fancy Snowshoeing ESF are the company to arrange this for you, All ESF instructors are fully available to teach you more about skiing and snowboarding, as well as other lesser-known activities like snowshoeing or ski touring.  as one of the most sought after resorts in France, the team at ESF La Rosière invite you to a beautiful resort that is still a hidden gem in the Savoie Tarentaise area of the alps. Twinned with Italian neighbours in La Thuile you can ski both countries with ESF instructors.

In conclusion, La Rosière has it all, an abundance of aprés-ski activities, a huge number of great runs, boutiques, bars and restaurants galore and the best hotel in Hyatt Centric, as a family holiday this has been an experience we hope to repeat.

There is just one more ‘thank you’ to the La Rosière Tourist Office who made sure we were busy experiencing the best of La Rosière, they were more than helpful, helping us to plan our trip full of exciting excursions.
