Arbour Café is where you need to be

At any time of year finding a suitable way to spend it with your significant other (Don’t worry, if you consider yourself as your significant other, it still counts – there’s no judgement here). Finding something new and exciting to do can be a drag but you have no reason to worry, I am here for solutions. My significant other and I spent the past weekend testing out a multitude of experiences around Joburg and we’ve both come to a consensus on the perfect place to spend your Valentine’s day.

If you’re like us and fall under the ideology of food being the way to the heart, the perfect place for you to be is hidden in the crevices of the stylish shops of Wrenrose Court. Arbour Café is an enchanting leaf-dappled alcove. Walking in, you are greeted by a beautiful forest of plants reminiscent of a summery conservatory – similar to the one you would find in the countryside of France. The friendly staff will lead you on an adventure through the store to find a secret haven found at the back of the café. The atmosphere is sunny and fresh, the perfect place for lunch.

Once seated, our waitress provided us with our menu, highlighting Arbour’s speciality – crêpes. The French-inspired menu is made up of an orchard of fresh, free-range and seasonal ingredients. If crêpes aren’t your thing, you have nothing to worry about, there is a wide variety of tasty alternatives to choose from.

Being our voracious selves, we decided that we would give the crêpes a miss and went straight for the main courses on the menu. My better half decided on the chicken fillets that came dressed in a light creamy white wine, sun-dried tomato, spinach and feta sauce. I, being somewhat of a steak connoisseur, went with a 250g aged ribeye steak with creamy herbed wild mushroom sauce with a sxollie granny smith cider to complement. The chicken was succulent and juicy whilst the steak was expertly cooked to my medium-rare preference. The potatoes wedges were fried perfectly – crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Both meals left our tums as well as our hearts filled.

The French-inspired café is dog-friendly and is equipped with free Wi-Fi. The venue is available for functions and pop-ups and hosts regular beautiful wine pairing evenings under the stars.

After reading this article, your gap to make arrangements is quickly coming to a close. If your goal is the perfect date, Arbour Café with its natural and intimate space is the perfect place for your romantic lunch.
