La Bagnaia Golf and Spa Resort: “Our Resort. Your Kingdom”
November 9, 2018
Just when you think you’re desperately in need of a holiday an amazing opportunity arises, out of the blue, and to Italy, perfect!
We took a short flight from the UK to Florence, followed by a swift and luxurious limo journey, we were soon in the extremely authentic and rather rustic resort, La Bagnaia Golf & Spa Resort Siena, a Curio Collection by Hilton, the ethos around this resort is “Our Resort. Your Kingdom.” And this is precisely what it felt like. We were warmly welcomed by the reception staff and given a guided tour of the facilities, we enjoyed a delicious cocktail and then spent a beautiful hour in our room prior to dinner.
The endless lavender bushes, breathtaking hill views and the 18 hole golf course provided a backdrop second to none, very instagramable!
The resort features 101 individually designed rooms and suites, full of interesting pieces sourced on global travels by the original owner. The resort has a couple of restaurants and bars, there’s plenty to keep you occupied at this stunning Italian resort.
We were shown to our suite, overlooking the gorgeous azure blue swimming pool and surrounding Tuscan gardens. Our suite was furnished with unusual artefacts from near and far travels. The bed was sumptuous and comfortable and although the room was not luxurious, it was cosy, sadly we did not have a balcony, but the pool terrace was a stones throw away, and with a cocktail from the pool bar it was a fabulous spot for a little early evening reading, a wonderful way to relax and enjoy the scenery before dinner.
La Bagnaia is a truly unique location, surrounded by the rich Tuscan History, and there’s plenty to fill your time with here, if that’s what you feel the need – Gala dinners under the stars, poolside DJ sets, dinners in Borgo Square, quad racing, farmer’s markets, live music, wine tasting, cooking classes, golf clinics on the first Tuscan 18-hole golf course, wellness days at the Buddha Spa by Clarins and hiking, all bookable through the hotel concierge. We made use of the hotel bikes and the spa, which was scenic ten minute bike ride away.
The golf course – Royal Golf La Bagnaia, was designed by the famous architect Robert Trent Jones Jr and was the first 18-hole golf course in Tuscany, and it is of the highest quality, with amazing vistas along the way, the clubhouse offers a great menu for hungry golfers, following 18 holes.
We were blessed with extraordinarily good weather for the time of year and took full advantage of La Bagnaia’s Buddha Spa by Clarins. With thermal waters from the ancient spring of Santa Caterina, swimming under the waterfalls of the outdoor pool and languishing on the super-comfy sun loungers, this was just the tonic we needed to recharge our batteries. We also experienced the stunning indoor pool, sauna and Turkish bath. The gym was small, but extremely well equipped. We also indulged in a Clarins massage, carried out by very experienced and knowledgable therapists.
The resort is divided into three areas, the main hotel, Borgo Bagnaia, which features 72 rooms and suites and the stunning outdoor pool and bar, which is open according to the weather. The main dining room, La Voliera is here also, where you can enjoy a sumptuous breakfast. There is a rather romantic terrace where we dined each evening, beautiful for the warm and balmy evenings. It is an elegant and refined restaurant, where the exclusive atmosphere provides the perfect setting to discover new flavours that exalt the quality and freshness of the ingredients. The menu was typically Italian, featuring local produce where possible.
The second area, Borgo Filetta, is just a short 1.2 km drive in one of the readily available complimentary hotel shuttles. It offers 29 rooms in an intimate and rural atmosphere surrounded by the lush green Tuscan hills. Borgo Filetta is very close to the Buddha Spa by Clarins. On site there is a bar and small restaurant , Antica Posta Filetta, serving quick dishes, cold cuts, sandwiches and some Tuscan specialties accompanied by excellent local wines. The locals come here for the freshly prepared pizzas, they are truly delicious, and are individually prepared to your exact liking, the atmosphere here is fun, relaxed and buzzy.
And finally the third area is the Buddha Spa by Clarins. The main feature here is the large outdoor pool with natural thermal waters and a four metre wide waterfall. The water registers a temperature at the source of 28.5 ° C and its therapeutic properties are extremely effective for treating all aches and pains, whether muscular or skeletal. The indoor pool, steam room and sauna are all equally as therapeutic. Clarins is the chosen product of preference here and the signature treatments offered in the spa are simply divine and in stylish, comfortable rooms.
The Resort is ideally located for exploring the Tuscan countryside and the famous cities of Siena, Florence and San Gimignano. La Bagnaia is a fabulous venue for the warmer weather and likewise indoor spaces are perfect for any event, be it business or pleasure, the event can be totally bespoke to your requirements.
All-in-all our visit here was short and sweet, we couldn’t completely indulge in all that the resort had to offer, but we left feeling relaxed and recharged and that’s all we needed, we enjoyed every minute of the hospitality the beautiful people eagerly at La Bagnaia offered.
