Nobu Hotels Brings Low-Key Luxury to Los Cabos
There are very few names in hospitality more synonymous with memorable experiences surrounding great food than that of Nobu. Already globally renowned for their restaurants, (after all, it was Chef Nobu Matsuhisa who first elevated miso black cod into art form), Nobu and business partners Robert De Niro and Meir Teper decided to branched out into hotels 2013. And as masters of high-end hospitality, the Nobu Hospitality brand is quickly becoming known for their instinctive design, great service and an overall vibe that feels unpretentious, relaxed and luxurious at the same time.
The rapidly expanding group (on track for 20 hotels globally by 2020) has just opened the doors of their newest outpost on the white shores of Mexico, Nobu Hotel Los Cabos. And what a spot they’ve chosen. As their debut hotel in Latin America, Nobu Hotel Los Cabos sits on an idyllic stretch of sand on the southernmost tip of the Baja Peninsula –one of the loveliest and only stretches of ocean in the area that’s calm enough for a proper swim.
The design here is nothing short of divine – secluded freestanding casas come with private pools and subdued interiors, and the guest rooms and suites all have ocean views. The hotel manages to beautifully execute an aesthetic of contemporary Japanese minimalism using the finest, locally sourced, Mexican stone and tiles. It is a delightful fusion of the Japanese style that Nobu is famous for, with a strong sense of being south of the border. Already attracting a notable group of tastemakers, influencers and style setters clinking margaritas , this new destination boasts the requisite chic atmosphere, pearl white sand and glittering pools but also comes with a low-key, chilled out vibe.
Each of the 200 rooms have a sleek look to them, and offer a furnished balcony and either a teak onsen-style soaking tub or a standalone bathtub. Certain categories of rooms and suites come with the bonus of direct access to the property’s main pool or their own private oasis. For those seeking the ultimate in luxury, there is also the one- or two-bedroom Nobu Suite. Boasting a large stone fireplace, separate living room, dining area, full kitchen, 15-foot ceilings, and ocean views, the light and airy spaces it is a luxury-seekers dream. Guests will also have access to four pools, private cabanas, and a spa that spans nearly 13,700 square feet.
Food wise – it should come as no surprise that given the name, that this is an area in which the resort excels. There’s of course a Nobu restaurant, complete with a 10-seat teppanyaki room for private events, in addition to an outpost of California’s highly popular Malibu Farm, both of which can be savoured via room service should you want to soak up the atmosphere in your own delightful digs. For more casual options there’s also the Nobu Cafe and a pair of eateries by the pool and beach, plus several cool looking bars .
And there is plenty of pampering to be had. The enormous (13,700 square feet) spa boasts an extensive list of treatments using Natura Bissé products, and invites guests to relax and unwind in utterly soothing surroundings. An outdoor, co-ed hydrotherapy garden includes a water circuit, experiential shower, cabana jacuzzi, outdoor shower, steam and sauna areas and a Watsu treatment pool. The spa has nine treatment rooms, a salon, indoor hydrotherapy areas and a 3,723sq ft fitness facility with an indoor/outdoor area for yoga and spinning.
For the swingers, the resort is surrounded by the world-famous Diamante golf course, designed by golfing legend Tiger Woods. In addition, there is spectacular whale-watching, a mere moment from the shore, as humpback and grey whales are frequently spotted along the shoreline. Guests at Nobu Hotel Los Cabos can be taken out by boat and feel close enough to touch these beautiful creatures – turning a trip away into a cherished, life-long, memory.
Indeed whatever travellers are seeking on their holiday – for foodies, spa lovers and design aficionados – Nobu Hotels Los Cabos has made a rather spectacular debut, and promises to deliver something that is nothing short of extraordinary.
