Murat Reis Ayvalik Luxury Turkish Style
May 13, 2017
When I think about what makes a perfect family holiday it’s about finding the right level of luxury (gorgeous but doesn’t fill me with panic regarding my 3 year old), the right pace (enough to do that no one is bored but not too much noise as my daughter provides that on her own), a kids club that she will find engaging, affordable to a degree so I’m not wincing each and every time anything is ordered in the restaurant, thoughtfully planned spaces to include children and privacy for us to spend time as a family away from other guests.
I found it all and more at Murat Reis Ayvalik, a stunning new hotel in Turkey ideal for those seeking privacy, tranquillity and affordable luxury. Ayvalik is on the Northern Aegean Coast right next to the Ayvalik Islands, a group of 22 gorgeous islands (boat trips can be arranged). The hotel sits right on the sea and the concept is beachfront luxury with a comfortable, chic and stylish edge.
It’s a new hotel – but also an entirely new, up and coming part of Turkey. A sleepy seaside town that is a long-time favourite for Turkish holidaymakers, Ayvalik is just now being discovered by the outside world, and accessible from Izmir or Istanbul. It also happens to be beautiful all year round with nearly 300 days of sunshine annually.
There are private villas for families and beach-fronted suites surrounded by turquoise sea and white sand. The beach is long and flat and shallow making it ideal for little swimmers along with a kids’ club with an array of activities with dining menus and a buffet that takes into account little taste buds. For adults there are sunset wine tastings, two chic restaurants offering a wide selection of modern Mediterranean foods along with incredible views. There is a deck bar, pool bar and lobby bar all on offer and for the highly motivated, a vast menu of water-sports . In the luxury spa and fitness centre there is a heated open pool, sauna, steam room with a view of the ocean, a Turkish Bath and all gym equipment affords excellent sea and island views whilst exercising. And naturally, with so many islands nearby, the seafood is incredible.
The stunning boutique hotel sits right on the sea. We could hear the gently lapping waves with our balcony doors open, the perfect way to be lulled to sleep. The concept here is Hamptons chic with a comfortable, luxe and stylish edge – think smart slate floors, whitewashed wood, dove grey armchairs with crisp navy and white linens. The superb resort offers breath-taking natural views, lush green gardens and pine trees wrapped around the legendary slopes of the Kaz mountains; accented by calming waterways and what may be the loveliest sunsets in the world.

There is nothing like discovering a new favourite. For us, Murat Reis Ayvalik was a holiday that suited each and every member of our clan – and one that will be savoured and remembered for many years to come.
