Pennyhill Park – A True 5 Star Experience at This Exclusive Hotel & Spa
September 7, 2017
Perhaps the most luxurious hotel I’ve had the pleasure to stay in here in the UK, Pennyhill Park – An Exclusive Hotel & Spa, in Bagshot, Surrey, boasts 17 individually styled bedrooms on an estate of 123 acres of land, along with an exceptional spa, two award-winning restaurants, nine hole golf course and eight pools including the outdoor, heated open air pool with bar and decked lounging area.
Visiting for a mid-week stay along with five fabulous ladies, we all the left the stress of London far behind us as rolled up the driveway and took in the perfectly manicured lawns and the country estate in all its splendour.
My room, ‘Wisteria’ was a pretty palate of purples with a huge window which gave way to relaxing views out across the acres. A modern, sumptuous and contemporary room with all the mod cons you’d expect, along with plush fabrics and a huge bathroom decked out in Italian marble, the oversized bed was most definitely one of the best I’ve slept in – offering luxurious Egyptian cotton, homemade mattresses and a pillow menu – literally the stuff dreams are made of.
After a delicious energising smoothie in the spa’s Themis restaurant, we were able to relax and unwind, with access to all of the facilities. The spa is completely mind blowing and easily the biggest spa I’ve ever visited. A haven of tranquillity, guests can indulge in the saunas, steam rooms and jacuzzis or get the circulation going in the ice igloo. The spacious, calming adult-only atmosphere allows you to completely forget the outside world and truly relax – try the sensory room bathed in candle light and you’ll wonder where the rest of the day went!
With the outdoor pool area the perfect place to enjoy a glass of ice cold champagne before a dip, or a snooze on the loungers, this is only one of the fabulous range of eight pools on the complex – the hydrotherapy pool is definitely one to try and the main indoor 25 metre pool even has underwater music for the most enjoyable of swims.
The range of spa treatments is quite vast. With spa days catering for everyone including ‘Mum to Be’ through to couples, there’s a whole host of innovative offerings including the Mindful Touch 3D experience and the Natura Bisse oxygen bubble! I enjoyed the classic spa massage from one of the spas experienced massage therapists. This full body massage is tailored specifically to your individual needs and mine centred on the relaxation aspect using ylang ylang, chamomile and evening primrose. Afterwards, I was given some advice from the masseuse on how to improve my relaxation and flexibility, which I thought was a really lovely end to the treatment.
With not one, but two award-winning restaurants on site, our evening meal was prepared by the superbly talented chef Matt Worswick in The Latymer Restaurant. This decadent dining room is the perfect place to while away the evening with friends or a partner, and the food is absolutely outstanding. With big bold flavours, hearty yet innovative dishes and locally sourced produce, we indulged in the eight course tasting menu with wine pairings.
Highlights included the Welsh braised shoulder of lamb, with creamy goat’s curd, and fresh peas and mint and the Galician braised octopus – simply divine, with sesame and miso. The Cornish red mullet, grilled, was also deliciously tasty and the Porthilly sauce with its strong, bisque flavours was amazing. The wine pairings were superb and all perfectly complimented the dishes. Priced at £75 per person for the menu, with the six glass wine flight available for £65 per person, it’s definitely an investment for a very special dinner and worth every penny!
With the England Rugby team’s training base on site and a host of celebrity clientele visiting regularly, Pennyhill Park’s exclusivity is unrivalled. With its hallways and staircases the perfect example of regal splendour, with gigantic mirrors, an abundance of beautiful fresh flowers and statement chandeliers, this hotel and spa is most definitely a five star stay in every sense.
