Prime Burgers at St Pancras International Station live up to their name
Prime Burgers are found in several locations in London itself, but on this occasion, we were at the St Pancras International Station outlet.
Meaty and juicy with a depth of ‘beefy’ flavour is what you ask from a burger, and we were not disappointed. Whilst a busy outlet, they managed to get the meal out on time according to their ‘8-minute rule’. Nothing worse than a dry burger and soggy chips – fortunately, that didn’t happen here. It’s a busy station, but service was on point, and cleaning and clearing were done with expert speed.
You may think that ‘a burger is a burger and chips are chips’ but not so at Prime Burgers. There are varieties of burgers with different toppings, and the selection of chips or fries to differentiate with another burger ‘joints’ definitely tickled our tastebuds. Top of the list, however, was their special ketchup, their own secret recipe, which was a super twist on normal bottled or squeezy ketchup. What’s in there? No idea, but it made a welcome change from the usual standard shop bought sauce.
If you are not a ‘beefy kind of person’, there are plenty of options available, including chicken and a good veggie burger as well as a gluten-free option. If you are a group of friends, everyone will be catered for.
There are some tasty additions on the side dish menu, plus a separate kids menu, perfect if you are travelling with little ones who need to be fed! We can highly recommend the milkshakes – not just for the tiny ones, but also for adults – the peanut butter and banana flavour immediately springs to mind! The shakes are made with frozen custard cream, yummy and as smooth as silk with a great variety of flavours.
Prime Burgers is, of course, a very much ‘eat and go’ kind of place, but we were not hurried through our meal at all, in spite of the hustle and bustle of a major UK station. You have time to have a leisurely drink such as a beer, including craft ales, or wine, it’s entirely up to you.
But back to the burgers – after all, it is the ‘raison d’etre’ for this eating establishment. Prime Burgers do care about their beef source, in terms of provenance and what it contains. Beef burgers are made from prime cuts of forequarter and rib of beef and lightly seasoned with black pepper and salt – no additives. 100% pure, unadulterated beef – it’s as simple as that.
We opted for the Original Burger, which does what it says on the tin – original and high quality, you could really taste the beef. We also tried the Prime Truffle Burger, with delicate shavings of truffle that purely highlighted the flavour of the beef and not overpowered it.
You go a long way to find decent chips these days – and we found them! One portion of cheese and bacon fries, and one with chorizo, cheese and chilli. Both were delicious, but our favourite was the latter, as I had never seen that option on a menu before. What a great choice we made! It really pays to dine out with at least one other person – you get to share!
With the options of special offers through all of their outlets at St Pancras, Euston and London Excel, Prime Burgers is an excellent choice for a quick and fulfilling meal. They also have a Club Prime Membership which lets you know about the latest deals, events and new store openings throughout the year.
It is what it is – a really good burger place with no hassle – try it. In a competitive burger market, Prime is doing a really good job.
