Speciality Serves from Difference Coffee Co.

Difference Coffee Co. authors arguably the finest, terroir-led coffee collection in the world, available via the clean, convenient and universal, one-touch Nespresso system.
Comprising 100% Arabica beans gathered from multi award-winning estates, the quartet of distinctive coffees comfortably meets, then beats, the stringent standards set by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA).
Founder, Amir Gehl took 18 months to befriend the world’s top coffee farmers and then finesse their finest fare into a product on-par with first growth wines. He says: ‘only 1% of the world’s coffee has earned the prestigious title of Speciality Coffee. But that’s the 1% I have in my capsules.’
Acknowledged experts helping breathe life into the brave new brand include Jonny England, who is responsible for Difference Coffee Co’s roasting and packing. England became the youngest of his ilk when he was recognised as one of just 25 licensed Quality Coffee Graders in the UK. He is also an authorised trainer for the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe, and Certified Judge for World Barista Championship and World Brewers Cup. England says: ‘There are around 1,000 aromatic compounds to be found in the best coffees. But most coffees commonly seen by consumers on a daily basis don’t have many of those compounds present.’
100% oxygen tight and nitrogen-flushed to preserve perfect freshness, the capsules from Difference Coffee Co. are encapsulated within hand-finished cofrets, featuring a frontispiece detailing the coffee’s CV, best quietly read and savoured over a reassuring shot.
Kona Extra Fancy from Hawaii represents the highest grade of 100% Kona coffee, gleaned from the ‘Buddha’s Cup’ estate, celebrated for its cherry, chocolate, and black tea aroma spectrum. No wonder prestigious Kona Cupping Classic Judge, John King, described it as: ‘The Quintessential Kona Coffee.’
Jamaica Blue Mountain, meanwhile, has long been regarded as one of the most exquisite and sought-after coffees. Here are ideal conditions for beans noted for their floral notes, mild yet complex flavour, lack of bitterness and creamy, artisanal dark chocolate bevel. The designation ‘Grade 1’, given by the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica, ensures it represents the highest grade of 100% Arabica beans cultivated.
Difference’s guaranteed Wild Kopi Luwak, Kopi Luwak, often referred to as ‘the world’s most expensive coffee’, derives its name from the Indonesian civet cat. The luwak cat selects only the most perfectly ripened berries, a process of meticulous inspection and one of the reasons why it is so prized. This rare treat is full bodied, but low in acidity, with chocolate and caramel undertones.
The beans of Panama Geisha are only sold by auction once a year. Esmeralda Special Auction Grand Reserve Geisha represents the Estate’s pinnacle beans. The particularly harmonious coffee has a unique citrus, jasmine and bergamot perfume. So rare is the Geisha that the New York Times proclaimed Hacienda La Esmeralda as ‘the Domaine De La Romanée Conti of Coffee.’
Capsules may be discovered in the UK’s finer restaurants, as well as the homes, jets and yachts of discerning private clients.
Quality of this kind is always in short supply. Gehl therefore is taking pride in building a members club similar to how Napa Valley producers have developed interest in wines such as Screaming Eagle. Those wishing to purchase capsules may do so through membership of the exclusive Difference Coffee Co. club.
