Sun Gardens Dubrovnik is a true Luxury Croatian Hotel and spa

June 14, 2018

Sitting on our private terrace, looking out over the sparkling blue sea of the Adriatic, the sun on your back and with a G & T in hand, what could be nicer?

Well, here we are in Croatia. A country which has been on our wish list to visit but now with having the opportunity to spend four days at the luxury Sun Gardens, Dubrovnik, we are finally here.

The 40 minute, private transfer in a luxury, chauffeured car along the beautiful coast road to the hotel, gave us the first glimpses of the stunning Croatian coast. The views of Dubrovnik old town are amazing (oh, perhaps I should have listened to my son and watched Games of Thrones, after all!) and we were so thankful to be passing by the cruise ships moored in the harbour. The road winds its way around beautiful coves and allow stunning views of the coastline and islands dotted along the coast. What is obvious to us is how unspoilt the area is- very few hotels but there again, given its history, much of the infrastructure is new.

The Sun Garden is nestled on the side of the hill with views looking down to the sea. The hotel itself is an architecturally magnificent building and there are also luxury apartments within the lush gardens which are characterised by formidable Cypress trees. A luxury, one bedroom apartment was to be our home for the next few days. The apartment was incredibly spacious (bedroom, bathroom, dining kitchen with lounge area, second W/C) and really well equipped. We had an amazing, large terrace with 180 degree views over the sea and it was fascinating to sit and watch the boats going about their business. How I envied the lady being brought to work from one of the islands and collect by boat each day!

There is great choice of restaurants serving a wide range of fare and the standard is good too. We had a wonderful dinner in the Cilantro restaurant- the fish dishes were delicious and the recommended Croatian wines went down rather well too!

The Pasta restaurant was our favourite at lunchtime, choosing a beer and a moorish salad, just what was needed before returning to our sun beds around the pool. The Butchers restaurant was great and the service impeccable under the watchful eye of the particularly efficient, smiling Valentina.

We were able to spend a very relaxing morning in the award winning spa. I make a point of having a massage wherever I visit, and the one I had and the facilities within the spa are up there at the top of my list! As we were on this occasion without children, we spent many a happy hour around the adult only Marina pool. The views are amazing!

The hotel staff are delightful, incredibly accommodating and efficient. We had a wonderful stay and Croatia is still on my wish list- this time for a return visit to the Sun Gardens.
