My husband and I love finding hidden gems and OCCO Bar Brasserie is just that. On entering we were shown to a table by the window that looked out onto the Dutch courtyard. Lucky to have great views in and out we were impressed by the design (by Studio Linse), a refreshingly modern and sophisticated space that complements the innovative menu.
The menu boasts an appetising variety of fish and meat dishes, as well as vegetarian. We were offered wine pairing by the in-house sommelier creating an ultimate culinary experience to our Dutch adventure.
Impressed by the menu descriptions my husband and I opted for 2 starters; the salmon with pistachio, crimson pear, red wine vinegar, sour cream and red onion paired with the 2016 Domaine du Bicheron Mâcon-Peronne a wonderful food partner. Secondly the Caesar salad with roasted prawns, egg, garlic croutons, onion and parmesan cheese paired with the Lagar da Xestosa Godello; a beautifully minerally and savoury Spanish white .
For mains we chose a meat and a fish dish, kicking off with the daring duck breast with kohlrabi, yellow savoy cabbage, bacon, spice glaze paired with a medium-bodied, Joostenberg Family Blend Red. The organic wine is right for all occasions and drinks well with food. For the second main we chose the fresh and zesty dorade ‘rose’ with pumpkin, orange, meat radish, ginger and honey paired with an organic white Possente Kima wine with strong fruity and floral personality. The dishes were both beautiful in taste and presentation offering a complete composition.
To satisfy our sweet tooth we were recommended by our waiter the Dutch special, the bread and butter pudding with orange, cinnamon, raisins and vanilla ice cream and the parsnip cake, passion fruit, roasted Edel Weiss 55% chocolate. The two desserts were soft in texture and the perfect finale to our 3 course meal at OCCO Bar Brasserie .
