The Green House Hotel – Serious about luxury, serious about sustainability
December 11, 2017
The Green House is simply a beautifully restored, 32-room Grade II Victorian villa in the heart of Bournemouth. Perfectly nestled between Dorset’s finest blue-flag golden beaches and the ancient mysteries of the New Forest.
Sustainability forms the core of the hotel’s ethos, so much so that they have been recognised as one of the top “eco-hotels” not just in the UK… but in the world!
After undergoing a recent 18-month refurbishment the accolades and awards have been rolling in since it reopened.
Rated 4 star, this hotel is perfect for a romantic English seaside getaway or for families with younger kids seeking a staycation.
Little things that make the difference
I was welcomed by the most friendly reception team, who greeted me with a warm smile, took my bags and showed me to my room. The moment the door was opened I knew I was in for a treat!
A lovely note hand written by the General Manager Olivia, along with a gift of Pasture Naturals and a chilled bottle of delicious prosecco was laid out for me.
I stayed in Sweet Chestnut, which is a large double room. A room beautifully furnished with bespoke, hand crafted furniture that has been made in the UK, using natural and sustainable materials.
In keeping with the sustainability ethos, the water in the bathroom heats up from the sun. The solid wood furniture has been made in the UK using trees felled by storms or tree surgeons.
All your expected amenities were on offer including free bottled water, tea and coffee making facilities.
Dining Experience in Arbor Restaurant
We dined in the hotel restaurant Arbor both nights of our stay. Arbor is a 2 AA Rosette restaurant. Menus change seasonally to ensure only the best local and sustainable produce is used. You’ll find well-cooked, honest, uncomplicated but imaginative food, with a huge emphasis on locally sourced ingredients.
Speaking to locals, during a night out and telling them about where we staying, they confirmed what we already knew, that Arbor is renowned for it’s fantastic food and service. I found service to be unfussy, staff are knowledgeable and you could tell they actually love food and love looking after people. I highly recommend a visit to Arbor when in Bournemouth.
Things I recommend to do during your visit
Definitely book breakfast! Locally-sourced ingredients, cooked perfectly well. Served between 7:30am and 10:30am every day with an option of continental breakfast and cooked breakfast on the menu.
Walking on the beach
The hotel is a convenient 10mins walk from Bournemouth Beach, which is award-winning.
Bournemouth currently has a host of festive activities, one of which is outdoor ice skating. Green House Hotel along with Skate of Bournemouth were kind enough to have arranged an afternoon of ice skating for us. Located in the Lower Gardens of Bournemouth and open through out the festive season, guests can speak to the reception team to inquire about booking tickets.
I have come away from my stay not only feeling refreshed, but also delighted to say I have found a home away from home, whenever I find myself in Bournemouth.
