The Oryx Rotana Doha in Qatar – Simply The Right Choice

March 15, 2018

I think like all business and leisure travellers after a long haul flight we all hope our hotel or resort is the right choice, and on arrival at the The Oryx Rotana Doha for two days on business and one for leisure, we were delighted with our selection.

Strategically located close to Hamad International Airport in Doha, but only a few minutes away from the city centre, corniche and business district, the property opened in 2010. The Oryx Rotana features an excellent choice of accommodation, with 400 deluxe rooms featuring the iconic Club Rotana Lounge and 11 meeting rooms that have been designed for companies looking for an outstanding and modern meeting venue.

After a quick security check-in, which was reassuring to see, the ground and first floors were totally stunning with amazing interior architecture and an atrium rising to the highest level of the hotel. Although check-in was a little slow, which we all hate after many hours in the air, we were soon through and escorted to our club level rooms, which did not disappoint.

The room was large, airy, spacious and thoughtfully designed, using the space to it’s fullest extent, ensuring comfort and practicality. The bathroom of course had a lovely selection of goodies, soft fluffy towels and a powerful shower. The bed was huge and firm, great for those of us with slightly achy backs, I slept like a log, the room was so peaceful, no banging doors or rowdy guests. The room was perfect for our stay, a little business and a little leisure, if only we’d had more leisure time!

Over the following three days we used the club lounge extensively for business with complimentary high speed wifi, snacks, canapés and cocktails served at selected times through-out the day. The breakfasts were also superb with a wide selection of wonderful foods to keep any guest happy and great service to suit.

Booking the use of a hotel car for business was also a great move, as our driver Jason was very knowledgeable of the city and talked us through local attractions and some of the history of Doha. He also updated us on the situation and how the region had changed slightly since the Doha’s new political relationship with Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and The UAE came into effect eight months ago.

Although we were unable to visit the hotels restaurants due to business meetings and leisure trips, we were told their dining venues suit all tastes and are considered as favourite restaurants in Doha. The exclusive Jazz Club has live band entertainment six nights a week from Sunday to Friday; The Cellar offers specialty wines and Mediterranean tapas; Al Nafourah Garden with a delicious Arabic menu is another dining choice, al fresco dining at Hubbly Bubbly looked great too;  The Sky Lounge is the perfect venue for meetings over a cup of coffee, under the stunning high glass conservatory-style ceiling.

To keep fit, The Bodylines Leisure and Fitness Club was used by us each morning,  and offers a fully equipped gymnasium with cardiovascular and weight training machines. The clubs professional instructors are on hand to assist and advise workout programmes. For relaxation, the hotels jacuzzi, steam and massage rooms and the outdoor temperature controlled swimming pool are open all year round and of a high standard.

Pool timings: 06:00am to 11:00pm, Fitness Centre timings: 24/7 and were both first class.
