The Sunborn Gibraltar, the Ultimate in Five Star Floating Luxury
June 4, 2018
The Sunborn Gibraltar is a luxurious five-star yacht moored in the idyllic Ocean Village Marina in Gibraltar, a sunny UK overseas territory located on the southernmost tip of the Iberian Peninsula. This 142-metre long floating hotel consists of 187 lavishly decorated rooms, a casino, lovely bars and cocktail lounges, and two restaurants.
This super yacht has a huge variety of rooms, suites and penthouses to suit all budgets, but let me tell you, Luxuria Lifestyle did it in style, we had a Penthouse Suite to top all others. The Superyacht Penthouse Suite represents the ultimate in superyacht luxury. The living space was impressive and featured prime sunset and sea-facing positions, we were on the fifth deck, but these suites are also available on the fourth and sixth decks, but all have extensive private terraces with outdoor furniture and sun loungers. The panoramic sea and marina views were simply magnificent. We were lucky enough to have superb weather, which of course is far more predictable there than in the UK! We basked in the sun on our vast desk and enjoyed watching boats come and go, while enjoying our complimentary bottle of bubbly and some rather delicious nibbles.
It seems strange to call this huge floating hotel a ‘hotel’ as it’s a rather luxurious liner, it has been moored in Gibraltar for four years and attracts visitors from across the globe.
The hotel features a sundeck with a plunge pool, and lush spa facilities. A stay at the Sunborn Gibraltar places you right in the heart of the British enclave on the Iberian coast, where you can spend the day exploring the narrow streets, take in the panoramic views from the top of the Rock, visit the macaques or just lounge by the pool, with a cocktail of course.
At night you can try your luck in the casino after a delicious dinner in one of the restaurants on board, and then toast your winnings on the deck of the yacht while you gaze across the sea, lit up by the sparkling lights of Gibraltar.
The hotel features two restaurants, La Sala Bar and Restaurant and Sky Restaurant. La Sala is where you’ll find some live entertainment, fab views and a great and varied mean. Sky Restaurant is on the top deck and also boasts wonderful views over the Gibraltar harbour and this is where you’ll enjoy your breakfast too. The atmosphere here is relaxed and the food superb.
The clientele seemed to be a mixture of locals and visitors from further afield, but all enjoyed the elegance of the hotel and presented themselves accordingly, they were all smart and chic, after all this is where ‘The Real Housewives of Cheshire’ stayed when visiting Gibraltar, and if it’s good enough for those extremely discerning ladies…. Say no more!
We loved our two night stay onboard the Sunborn five star floating hotel, and even if you don’t stay onboard next time you’re in southern Spain, take the scenic route to Gibraltar and dine in one of those two stunning restaurants.
