Thornton Hall Hotel & Spa – Luxury escape to one of Wirral’s most attractive villages

Set in beautiful gardens, Thornton Hall was truly an unforgettable weekend getaway. The perfect venue whether it be a spa day, spa break, or even your wedding, Thornton Hall will you have you blown away with their amazing service, food, facilities and countryside surroundings. We drove from London which was a lovely journey taking in the scenery on the way.

On arrival to Thornton Hall we were instantly impressed with the grounds. Driving past beautiful little gardens with greenery and water features, before heading to the front of the rather elegant building, featuring aromatic flowers and stairs leading to the main house and reception.

On arrival into the hotel we headed to reception to check in. A friendly member of staff who dealt with our check in very kindly greeted us; he offered to take our bags and began to show us to our room. On our way to the room we were given a mini tour of the hotel and its main facilities..

Our room was a character bedroom, giving a lovely cozy feeling as you enter. Each bedroom has its own charming design and is furnished individually. Full facilities were available in the room, including bathrobes and slippers. Our room was well dressed with quirky armchairs and lovely fittings throughout. The colour scheme of our room was a soft beige and rich teal, both complimenting each other beautifully, giving the room such a fresh and calm ambience. The bathroom was generous in size, equipped with luxurious free standing bathtub. Large mirrors adorned the walls, soft fluffy towels and lots of lovely bath products were available, exactly what we needed to prep for our evening meal, which was booked at The Lawns Restaurant, situated within the main house.

We started in the lounge bar for a cocktail. The warm lighting and soft velvet chairs were perfect to chill out on, with a refreshing drink to hand. The lounge gave us that lovely welcoming feel, just what we needed before our dinner. The staff in the lounge greeted us with lovely friendly smiles and directed us to a table where we were given menus for drinks, and a sample of the tasting menu we were about to have.

The service in The Lawns Restaurant was efficient, and our delicious pre dinner drinks were just perfect. The Lawns Restaurant is renowned for superb international cuisine, and an extensive selection of wines. Richard Collingwood is the head chef at The Lawns. He has worked his way up through three Rosette and Michelin starred kitchens, I knew we were going to be in the hands of a culinary genius. The most recent tasting menu consists of six courses, all featuring seasonal and locally sourced produce to create dishes that reflect their own experiences. My favorite dish here was the ‘Scottish Langoustine’. This was a delicious lobster dish served alongside, almond, grapefruit and asparagus. Each dish was served to us with the waiting staff explaining fully the details of everything we were being served. Even though I had a favorite dish, I can assure you every single one was prepared and served to absolute perfection.

To go alongside our tasting menu, we enjoyed a selection of wines that complimented every single dish. This selection of mouth-watering wines were from all around the world. The Sommelier expertly described each wine paired with the corresponding dish with obvious experience and great knowledge.

Overall at The Lawns, we received the very best in service from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. The restaurant really lived up to its fine dining reputation.

In the morning we woke to the perfect picturesque view of beautiful green fields and cows freely roaming. We headed to The Lawns restaurant for breakfast, where once again we were greeted warmly. Coffee was served and we had the choice of either the buffet style continental breakfast or something different from the menu. I went for the buffet style breakfast, as there was so much to choose from. The buffet style breakfast had everything from cereal, pastries, meats, full English, and fruit juice. It was safe to say after the six course meal the night before, I was most definitely full following the superb breakfast!

Sunday was our spa day, we had a full day ahead including a treatment and taking full advantage of the spa facilities. Upon arrival to the spa, gracious staff greeted us and gave us all of the information that we needed for our special day. We were taken on a tour of the spa and the facilities. Then ready with our slippers, robes and towels we went to began our spa experience. We began with the two pools, one inside and one outside. The inside pool is styled upon a roman bath and is 20m in length. There is also a indoor spa pool which is lovely and warm if you are looking for somewhere to relax and relish the moment. There is plenty of seating around the pool area, so if you wish to have a lie down in the calm silence of the pool hall, this is the perfect place.

The pool hall includes a thermal zone. Now here in the thermal zone was something I had never experienced before…a Snow Cave! This room was alongside the sauna and steam room and the temperatures in here as you can guess was freezing! The Snow Cave helps to bring your body temperature back down after using the sauna/steam room, which in return will help boost circulation. Rasul is the mud therapy suite within the spa, we unfortunately did not get to try this, but this room is said to help rejuvenate tired skin and create an overall unique experience.

After our time in the spa we headed back to reception where we were taken to have our choice of treatments. We began our experience with some quality time in the tranquility suite. This quiet room with mood lighting, subtle music and fresh water is perfect to unwind before your treatment.

My choice of treatment was the Elemis BIOTECH facial. This facial is a supercharged treatment combining BIOactives with TECHnology. Combining this with Elemis powerful products creates a facial that you cannot compete with. Therapist Claire performed my treatment, giving me all the details of the machine, the different treatments it can provide, the products used, and the results expected. Claire was also very knowledgeable when it came to analyzing my skin and choosing the perfect products that I should be using. Claire decided after analyzing my skin that the BIOTECH Blemish control would be best suited to me. Claire used the ultrasonic tool to begin with, which uses a ceramic plate that vibrates 2700 times per second to lift dead skin and stimulate production of collagen. Following this the Galvanic was used which uses positive and negative polarity from galvanic currents to open pores and draw out impurities. This was used on top of a refreshing mask to give it the full effect. Light therapy was the last tool used, this gives a combination of anti-bacterial blue light and re-energizing blue light therapy to treat the skin.
I would highly recommend this facial. The facial alone is amazing, but when you combine the knowledge of Claire, you can combat any skin concerns giving you the most powerful facial!

Once our relaxing day at the spa had come to an end we decided to have our evening meal at the hotels Tapas & Grill. This is more of an informal dining experience and is set within the spa, creating a relaxing atmosphere. Service, staff and food was all perfect, leaving us both completely relaxed and satisfied by yet another glorious meal, we completed our evening with drinks in the lounge.
