Three Bouys quality seafood in Ryde, with a view
Oh why did we leave it until the last evening to visit Ryde on the Isle of Wight, it’s a fabulous smart seaside town, cosmopolitan and scenic, with a stunning long beach, great parks, fabulous shops and above all else the Three Bouys restaurant, beachside. Had we known about this great eatery we would have dined here a few more times! We had the best seafood here, fresh, inventive and delicious. The beachy slightly seaside-inspired décor creates a relaxed and comfortable setting, with views over Appley Beach and a superb varied menu, this is a venue well worth a visit at least once or twice when on the Isle of Wight.
Our experience at Four Bouys was exceptional, the chef and owner greeted us warmly to go through the menu with us before we made our minds up. His passion and knowledge were unparalleled, he explained that the menu varies daily dependant on the time of year and catch.
Following some warm bread and olives, we made our decisions, it was Crab Risotto for me and Mackerel Paté for my husband. The risotto was creamy and with the white crab meat made a huge impact on my tastebuds, an experience I shan’t forget. My husband enjoyed the paté as much as I did the risotto. We paired these starters with a delicious white wine recommended by the waiter, who as it happened was just as knowledgable as the chef.
Our main course was my absolute favourite – St Austell Bay Mussels that arrived steaming hot with a sauce of apple cider, leeks and smoked bacon. Now I do like to mop up the sauce so I asked for the toasted garlic bread with parsley, this was the perfect finishing touch to the fattest most succulent mussels I’ve ever tasted. My husband, being a meat lover chose the Three Bouys Beef Burger, it came with bacon jam, Monterey Jack cheese and sliced tomato in a soft baked bun, he ordered a side of fries to go with it. The burger was beautifully cooked and the bacon jam was sweet and salty at the same time, giving a fabulous twist to an otherwise standard, but delicious burger.
I do have a very sweet tooth but very nearly had to pass on dessert, but when I saw the menu had Chocolate Cremeaux with salted caramel gelato, peanut praline and boozie burnt caramel, I couldn’t resist! It was heavenly. My husband had a selection of sorbets. We didn’t want to leave, we were enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, so we had a coffee to finish our perfect evening off and made sure we gave our most heartfelt compliments to the very talented chef, begging him to come to the mainland!
