ULI Notting Hill Gate encompasses all traditional Asian disciplines

July 18, 2019

Notting Hill Gate, famous for that Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts movie of the same name, is every bit as interesting an area of London as the film portrayed. Notting Hill Gate features a plethora of boutiques, bars and restaurants, the competition is huge.

We chose to drive from Hertfordshire to ULI, we found it easily and also parked within a short walking distance to the restaurant. It was a beautiful warm and sunny evening and the four of us were excited to be dining in this fabulous Asian eatery.

We arrived to find contemporary style decor featuring natural limed oak, soft furnishings in pale tones of blue and interesting modern artwork adorning the walls. The hanging garden of pendant lights gave a cosy and romantic ambience.

The menu encompasses carefully selected dishes from Asia, all prepared using traditional Chinese, Thai, Malay and Singaporean disciplines. They believe that Asian food should be clean, fresh and healthy, and that each dish should always be made from scratch.

We began our Asian feast with a few classics, sesame prawns on toast, crispy duck, vegetarian pancake rolls, gyosa and crispy lamb to wrap in lettuce, this was my personal favourite, but all dishes were steaming hot and very obviously cooked to order, fresh and delicious.

We each chose a different main course dish to share with each other with a rice and noodle options. Szechuan chilli prawns, Pan-fried teriyaki black cod with asparagus, Sweet and sour battered chicken or pork, Crispy shredded chilli beef and Stir-fried jungle curry. We chose egg fried rice and steamed Jasmine rice. We had a wonderful experience and stayed for several hours, the atmosphere was relaxed and the food stunning.

Originally established on the All Saints Road in 1997, ULI became a firm favourite among locals and critics alike. At its new home on Ladbroke Road where the terrace forms part of the vibrant local scene, ULI serves lunch and dinner all week as well as an extensive range of snacks, cocktails and beverages.

I recommend you book as it really is a most popular restaurant, it encompasses all that one requires for a great night out, great food, a fabulous setting and wonderful service.
