GOFFS London Sale x Château Léoube: A Partnership as Refined as Its Guests

Each summer, in the lush, private gardens of Kensington Palace, an event unfolds that feels part fairytale, part high-stakes business — the GOFFS London Sale. A truly unique and exclusive occasion, the sale brings together the elite of the international horse racing world and high society on the eve of Royal Ascot. But amidst the gleaming thoroughbreds, million-pound bids, and the heady scent of freshly cut grass, another name has become synonymous with this event’s distinct character: Château Léoube.

Now celebrating its eleventh consecutive year as a proud partner of GOFFS London Sale, Château Léoube has become an integral part of the event’s sensory experience. Their award-winning organic rosé has flowed freely at every edition since the event’s inception, earning its place not just in the glasses of the attendees but in the atmosphere of the sale itself.

As a first-time guest this year, I was struck by the effortless charm and relaxed atmosphere of the occasion. It’s rare to be able to stroke a retired racehorse, admire up-and-coming talent poised for the track, and watch a dressage display all in one afternoon. The dressage rider explained the training process with warmth and clarity, emphasising how a horse’s natural inclination shapes its path — be it racing, dressage, or show jumping. “You can’t force a horse to be something it’s not,” she noted. That sense of authenticity and respect for nature felt deeply aligned with the spirit of Château Léoube — a producer known for crafting wines that reflect the land, rather than imposing upon it.

In the London summer heat, there were two refreshments that stood out: the delicate rosé and the delicious artisan ice cream and sorbet by FluTy PuTin. The frozen treats provided welcome relief from the rising temperatures, with flavours including wild strawberry cheesecake and mango & passionfruit sorbet. The vibrant and creative flavours were not just a treat — they were practically a necessity.

And then, of course, the wine. Love by Léoube Rosé, the wine selected for this year’s sale, was a revelation— light, balanced, and incredibly refreshing. Its subtle notes of raspberry and pomegranate delivered just the right amount of flavour, without ever becoming heavy or overwhelming. Perfectly chilled and beautifully pale, it felt tailor-made for this kind of elegant summer occasion.

The event, while unquestionably high-end, after all, one of the 30 lots sold for an eye-watering £2 million, retains a uniquely intimate and approachable charm. Guests wander freely among the horses, converse with trainers, and immerse themselves in an atmosphere that feels far more like a garden party than a high-octane auction. That said, the stakes are very real: buyers are not only acquiring horses of world-class pedigree but, in many cases, runners who could be competing just days later at Royal Ascot. That immediacy is what makes this sale so thrilling, where else can ownership change hands and be followed almost immediately by a competition in one of the sport’s grandest stages? One-of-a-kind, the sale is not just an auction, it’s part theatre, part sport, and completely captivating.

Château Léoube, owned by the Bamford family, organic farming pioneers in both France and the UK, fits perfectly into this world. With its roots in sustainable, family-owned production and its reputation for impeccable, organic Provence rosés, Léoube appeals to the same sensibilities as the GOFFS audience. These are people who appreciate the finer things, but who also value authenticity, quality, and responsible stewardship, whether that’s of land or livestock.

Léoube’s presence at GOFFS feels natural. Their partnership with GOFFS, as MD Jerome Pernot put it, reflects a natural synergy: “We are an elite organic winery with a passion for horse racing around the world. GOFFS is elite in the field of bloodstock and auctioneering, so there is much synergy between us, and we are proud of this unique and long-standing partnership.”

Love by Léoube Rosé embodies everything the brand stands for — elegance, freshness, and the character of its coastal Provençal terroir. It’s a wine made for celebration and for moments like these.

Ultimately, the GOFFS London Sale is about passion: for horses, for heritage, for beauty and craftsmanship — whether expressed through the raw athleticism of a racehorse or the delicate balance of a fine rosé. As the sun dipped behind the palace trees and glasses were topped up one final time, it was clear that this wasn’t just an event — it was a celebration of everything that makes life worth savouring.
