Anantara Iko Mauritius: Launches Coral Farming Exploration Led by Marine Biologist

Hands-on reef restoration in Blue Bay Marine Park, from nursery know-how to in-water observation.

Le Chaland, Mauritius, 3 October 2025: Anantara Iko Mauritius Resort & Villas has introduced a coral restoration experience that invites guests to learn, observe, and contribute. Led by the resort’s in-house marine biologist, the programme covers coral ecology, fragment nurseries, and outplanting techniques, followed by an in-water session to view active planting sites in Blue Bay Marine Park.

Rooted in the Be Iko pillar, the experience pairs conservation with guest education and practical stewardship. Group sizes are limited, single-use plastics are avoided, and briefings emphasise safe behaviour around fragile reefs.

“This is a calm, well-guided introduction to reef restoration. Guests come away with a clear picture of how nurseries work, why species selection matters, and what it takes to help corals recover in a changing climate,” said Daniel Méndez, General Manager, Anantara Iko Mauritius Resort & Villas.

The journey, step by step

• Marine briefing: coral biology, bleaching, and the nursery methodology used in the lagoon.
• In water observation: guided snorkel or dive to active planting sites to observe outplanted fragments taking hold.
• Reflection and records: optional photo keepsakes and a debrief on how to support reef-friendly habits.

What is included

• Marine biologist hosts and safety briefing
• Snorkel guide or divemaster, with light equipment provided
• Towels, water, and reef-safe sunscreen on request

Thoughtful by design

• Wildlife first: timing and routing respect marine life, nesting seasons, and local guidelines. Viewing is always non-intrusive and at respectful distances.
• Low impact service: no single-use plastics where practical, refillable glass and reef-safe sunscreen are encouraged.
• Local stories: hosts share history, culture, and nature notes that bring each site to life.

Operating notes

This experience runs 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on snorkel or dive. Sea conditions and visibility apply. Participants must be comfortable swimmers. Minimum age and certification apply for diving. The route and depth are adapted to conditions and guests’ abilities.
