Old Church Farm – a peaceful escape far from crazy city life

Old Church Farm, a 5-star gold award-winning luxury accommodation. Perfect for a weekend gateway, a dream wedding venue and fabulous facilities for conference and events. It was like going back in time, full of charm sixteenth century old world charm.

Originally known as Alveston Manor, Old Church Farm is located in Bristol and as a boutique hotel has just seven ensuite rooms, all beautifully appointed ensuring your total comfort. We had two nights of pure unadulterated bliss and were given the second-largest suite,  it provided us with magnificent accommodation and it’s safe to say that it was once in a lifetime experience.

Not only were the staff extremely friendly, but they made sure that it felt like home-from-home while providing us with anything we could ever need. Every room features its own story with unique décor emulating the romantic sixteenth-century period in time. The antique furniture is well preserved, the quality of each piece authentic and stylish.

One of my favourite features of the room was the fully renovated bathroom,  overlooking the backyard giving a superb view, yes, you read it right, even the bathroom had a breathtaking view.

A peaceful afternoon in the Secret Garden

After our arrival at Old Church Farm spending some time in our room enjoying a rest following a busy business week, we ventured downstairs to enjoy the huge backyard view by the sunset. The hotel is located outside of Bristol deep in the countryside, we took time to take in nature while lightening to the sound of the birds, the smell of flowers and of course no afternoon in the sun would not be complete without a gorgeous bottle of champagne.

There is a well-tended rose garden with a large lawn area for those guests who just need some chillout time while taking in the gorgeous aroma of the beautiful roses. Alternatively, if the weather is fine and some vitamin D is needed, sunbathing on the loungers is definitely a good option.  Peace and quiet without a doubt are on the menu here, but again don’t forget to indulge in that extremely necessary bottle of bubbly!

Once in a lifetime dining experience – freshly cooked, just for you!

Old Church Farm provides you with a daily menu so your food is always freshly cooked and specially prepared just for you. I have to say that I was pretty impressed when I saw such a wide variety of food suitable for all tastes and dietary requirements. The dinner menu included three courses for a very reasonable £32.50 per head!  There is also a huge selection of red and white wine, soft and alcoholic drinks to complement your meal.

We began dinner with Twice Baked Cheese Soufflé with rocket, apple and walnut, the perfect size to begin our feast, tasty and very special.  The presentation was breathtaking and obviously the chef at Old Church Farm pays a lot of attention to detail, taking pride in their craft. The vegetables that came with twice-baked cheese soufflé were absolutely superb, rich and creamy and beautifully harmonised by the walnut and rocket.

As there were two of us we had the chance to share our starters; get ready seafood lovers, this one is for you! Hot Prawn Pancetta, Avocado and Beetroot Salad, thank goodness we could share, both starters were completely amazing.  Generally, the starters are padded out with the salad with less of the main ingredient, prawns, in this case, but not here,  there was a huge number of juicy succulent prawns, it was indeed most impressive.

The main course menu included steak, duck or fish. We both decided to try the Dry Aged Sirloin Steak with Herb butter, we enjoyed this so much, it was cooked to perfection and was flavoursome even without the herb butter. The steak was served with fresh seasonal vegetables and sautéed potatoes.

Last but not least we finished our lovely dinner with Vanilla Panna Cota with Fresh Garden Berries. The mouthwatering panna cotta came with caramelised sweets on top. This dining experience definitely was the one to remember. Overall my favourite course was the main – a juicy mouthwatering big slice of Sirloin Steak.

The next morning, after a restful nights sleep we woke up to a beautiful sunny day in Bristol, with a lovely breakfast in bed experience, it was perfectly prepared and presented. Guests can either choose to have breakfast in the room or go downstairs to enjoy a lovely buffet experience in the restaurant! My all-time favourite go-to traditional English Breakfast didn’t let me down once again! Delicious good quality scrambled egg, sausage, bacon and a big cup of freshly squeezed orange juice, what better way to start the day?

I had heard a lot of good things regarding the meeting and conference rooms, so I wanted to check them out before heading back to London. After packing our suitcases to leave our lovely room, we went to see the conference rooms of which there are two, varying in size depending on the capacity required. Both of the rooms come with a huge projector screen, comfy seating and a bright airy workspace.

Thank you to online booking specialist eviivo for organising the opportunity to stay at such a lavish property.

In conclusion, I strongly recommend a visit to Old Church Farm to experience hospitality, super food and wonderful accommodation in this stunning historical building.
