Hotel Indigo Exeter – a stunning new boutique hotel in Exeter

I had the pleasure of visiting and staying at the brand-new beautiful Hotel Indigo in the heart of Exeter. Nestled in the centre of the vibrant city of Exeter, this boutique hotel offered a truly memorable and luxurious experience. From its stylish design to its exceptional service, Hotel Indigo Exeter provided an unforgettable stay that showcased the best of both the city and the hotel itself.

History

Hotel Indigo Exeter has been lovingly restored and converted from its department store origins. This hotel was once the home of Colson’s, a department store opened in 1792 by local milliner Mrs Colson, who became one of the city’s most loved characters. From Colson’s to Dingles, to House of Fraser and now Hotel Indigo Exeter.

Hotel

From the moment I stepped into the hotel, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The lobby exuded elegance, combining contemporary design elements with a hint of Exeter’s rich heritage. The attention to detail was evident throughout the entire property, with beautiful artwork and stylish furnishings that perfectly complemented the hotel’s overall aesthetic.

Hotel Indigo Exeter boasts a range of well-appointed rooms, each meticulously designed to offer the utmost comfort and relaxation. My room was a beautiful suite with a balcony overlooking the city, featuring modern amenities and a plush bed that ensured a restful night’s sleep. The attention to detail was remarkable, with unique touches that paid homage to the local culture and history of Exeter. I particularly appreciated the thoughtfully curated minibar and the luxurious bathroom amenities, which added an extra touch of indulgence to my stay.

The bathroom was spectacular, featuring a huge bathtub and gold detailing. There was nothing better than wearing the comfy robes, slippers and enjoying a bubble bath with a drink in hand!

Dining

One of the highlights of my stay at Hotel Indigo Exeter was the exceptional dining experience. The hotel’s restaurant showcased the culinary skills of the talented chefs, who expertly prepared a diverse range of dishes using locally sourced ingredients. The menu was a fusion of traditional and contemporary flavours, with each dish artfully presented and bursting with taste. The attentive staff provided impeccable service, ensuring that every dining experience was a memorable one.

At Hotel Indigo, you are spoilt for choice! In the hotel, you can enjoy Colson’s Seafood Bar and Grill, and simple cooking over charcoal and flame. The Dugout is an upscale Sports Bar with small and large plates of classic comfort food and you can also enjoy Beckett’s Rooftop Cocktail Bar.

The Sunday roast, in particular, stole the show with its tender cuts of meat, accompanied by flavourful roasted vegetables and fluffy Yorkshire puddings.

No Sunday dinner is complete without a delectable dessert, and Hotel Indigo Exeter certainly delivered on this front. The dessert menu boasted a tempting selection of sweet treats, from classic favourites like Apple Cheesecake to innovative creations like Lemon curd parfait and Buttermilk Panna Cotta. Each dessert was beautifully presented, and the flavours were perfectly balanced, providing a sweet ending to an extraordinary dining experience.

Location

Hotel Indigo Exeter enjoys a prime location in the heart of the city, making it the perfect base for exploring Exeter’s rich history and vibrant culture. The hotel is conveniently situated within walking distance of popular attractions such as Exeter Cathedral and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the city’s heritage. Additionally, the hotel is surrounded by charming shops, cafes, and restaurants, providing ample opportunities for leisurely strolls and delightful culinary discoveries.

Service

What truly set Hotel Indigo Exeter apart was the impeccable service and genuine hospitality extended by the staff. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure my needs were met. Whether it was providing recommendations for local attractions or promptly attending to any requests, the staff’s attention to detail and dedication to guest satisfaction was truly commendable.

Spa

Upon entering The Retreat Spa, I immediately felt a sense of calm wash over me. The spa’s soothing ambiance, with soft lighting and gentle music, created a serene environment that instantly transported me to a place of tranquillity. The attention to detail in the spa’s design and decor further enhanced the overall experience, evoking a sense of luxury and sophistication.

You can enjoy two luxurious hydro pools, unwind and cleanse your mind in the sauna and steam room, and experience the Niagara rainfall shower.
