Joseph James – Money, Mindset & Strategy

As the world slowly comes back to life after being in limbo for what feels like forever, we thought it was an ideal time to sit down and talk with money mindset coach and business mentor, Joseph James about the best way to navigate the current time.

Can you explain what you mean by money mindset and why is it so important?

Absolutely.

Money mindset is the way you think about yourself, your worth and what is possible for you.

Something I often say in workshops is “Your relationship with money is directly related to the relationship you have with yourself”

Our mindset effects everything that we do, so it’s important to always make sure that the way you are thinking and the beliefs that you are holding as true are actually in line with what you want for yourself.

Think of it like the gym- you don’t go for a while and then stop. You get to where you want to be and then maintain it and upgrade where needed.

For example, if you want to raise your fees but you secretly belief that people won’t pay that, then you’ll either hold yourself back or sabotage in some way.

What we do with coaching is, let go of the belief that actually don’t work for you and imprint new ones that do. Then we map out very practical ways you can move towards tour goals even faster.

What advice would you give to people who want to step things up?

Most of my private clients come to me with this exact question, so it’s something I coach people on every day.

The first thing is to get clear on what “step things up” looks like for you in your business and lifestyle.

How much more do you want to make? How many hours do you want to work? Etc etc

Once you’ve gotten clear on that, then ask yourself “What do I need to belief about myself to make that happen?”

Mindset always comes first.

The next step is to look at how you can raise your fees and create multiple income streams for your business, putting practical steps in place always supports mindset.

How has the last year been for you?

Whilst it’s been very uncertain in a lot of ways, we actually expanded the business in some really cool ways.

In the second quarter of 2020, when the situation was just starting, we actually launched MMS Academy, an online school for entrepreneurs, it was just as so many people were working from home for the first time and had to learn to bring their offers online, so I was really happy to be able to support people with that.

We also launched coach training programs and in traduced some new private coaching packages as well.

The biggest lesson for me was adapting your offers to what people need and making it easy for people to say yes.

On a personal level, I left London and moved to Ibiza which was a no brainer really.

You’ve been called “The ultimate business coach for serious entrepreneurs” How did you get started as a money mindset coach?

I was a publicist for ten years, I worked on some amazing global brands and campaigns and ways found myself naturally coaching people. I started to notice that you could give two people the exact same business strategy and they would get completely different results, largely down to their money mindset and how they feel about themselves.

A client I was doing PR for actually noticed me coaching without me realizing it and ended up passing me clients and it grew from there.

Now I run an online Academy, have a podcast, a boot camp, coach training and have a private coaching practice with some amazing clients around the world.

I love coaching my clients to achieve their goals, especially the ones that they didn’t think were possible for them.

What advice would you give to business owners who are navigating the current market?

If the last year and a half has taught us anything, it’s the importance of being in control of your income as much as you can be.

I teach this in several ways in my private coaching and also my online school, MMS Academy, here are 3 examples:

Create multiple income streams for your brand

This simply means having more than one way that you or your business generates income at any given time. Any business can create multiple income streams, it’s simply about thinking bigger. One of the best ways to grow your wealth is to create multiple income streams, then you’re making more money in the same amount of time.

Sell packages and programs

Any service can be built into a package. I teach this in depth in MMS Academy and clients are having amazing success with it.

Packages actually help your client a lot more than a single service or session, deepen your relationship and actually allow you to charge a much better fee. It’s about creating what I call mutual abundance.

Create VIP offers

A portion of your current client and customer base will naturally want a VIP offer but people are not going to upgrade themselves, you have to make it available and suggest it when you feel it’s a good fit.

This can include things like more access to you, more support, faster delivery, some done for you services.

What would a VIP package look like in your business? What would you love to charge for it?

In terms of marketing, now more than ever we need to be tapping into what people really want and highlighting clear benefits that we can bring to them. It’s about building trust and connection with your audience, especially now.
