Luxuria Lifestyle interviews Tom Gozney of Gozney Pizza Ovens
Gozney was founded by Tom Gozney with one simple mission: to combine wood-fired engineering and beautiful design to create products that will forever change the way we cook, connect and live.
Can you tell us a bit about your background?
I started building pizza ovens over a decade ago with a mission to make live-fire cooking more accessible to everyone.
I built my first pizza oven by hand in my garden. While that first oven was rough, the pizza tasted amazing, and I witnessed first-hand the power live-fire cooking holds. It can, not only change how people cook but, how we live, connect, create and share.
At that time in my life, I was fresh out of rehab and a little lost. That first pizza oven honestly saved my life, it not only helped me reconnect with loved ones during a difficult time, but it also inspired me. From my garden, Gozney was born and I started building the business brick by brick on a mission to make the best possible pizza ovens.
Beginning in 2010, as The Stone Bake Oven Company, the first ovens were commercial professions pizza ovens, but the vision was always to make live fire cooking accessible – using the same technology and materials as professional pizza ovens. Fast forward a decade and we now have our ovens in restaurants, cafes, gardens, patios and streets all over the world.
What’s next for Gozney?
2022 is set to be a really exciting year for Gozney, as we continue to push the boundaries of design and engineering with the launch of new products and accessories. We launched our latest pizza oven, the Gozney Dome, in March which has already secured multiple industry awards and we are releasing a whole range of pioneering accessories for it later this Spring, which will unlock limitless cooking possibilities and enable people to roast, smoke, steam and bake.
We are also launching into retail this year in both the UK and US which we see as a huge opportunity for growth.
What would you like your customers to say about your product?
Good question. I guess that our products are easy to use, innovative, and the best you can buy in terms of quality, design and performance.
I founded Gozney with one simple mission – to make live-fire cooking accessible to everyone. Ease of use, performance and quality are the priority for me.
The design team and I continue to push the boundaries of both engineering and design to create beautiful, functional, durable tools that light a fire for anyone to be able to make, create, build, invent, provide, connect, discover, share and grow.
Every Gozney oven is built to last using pro-grade materials and a design informed from our origins in the commercial industry. For customers to see that difference and notice how our ovens can deliver the same results you’d expect from a restaurant is also important to us.
However, I always think the ultimate compliment is when a customer says that, through purchasing a Gozney oven, they’ve found a love for outdoor cooking and that they love the product so much they want to shout it from the rooftops. We had one customer last year buy a Roccbox – he loved the oven and live-fire cooking so much he bought one for each of his kids.
What are the challenges in the world of pizza ovens?
I think in every industry right now supply chain is a challenge. Over the last two years we’ve experiences demand we can only dream of but have been limited by the current global issues with logistics and supply chains.
The good news is, at Gozney we’ve been working really hard to mitigate these issues over the past year and were delighted that we could finally launch the Dome on general sale in March.
What is your favourite recipe other than a pizza that you love to cook in one of your pizza ovens?
I love blazing out tapas-style dishes, wood-roasted artichokes, meatballs, flatbreads anything simple, fast and delicious.
