Summer blush: Rioja rosados not to miss out on this season

As the nation thinks pink when it comes to summer sipping, Rioja rosé has been enjoying special attention. Jack Merrylees of Majestic Wine shares that customers have been branching out and Rioja Rosado is ‘an area we’re really excited about’ and describing this style of wine as ‘a blend of refreshing and vibrant’.

The exclusive elegant one…

Marques de Murrieta Primer Rosé, 2019, from £23.46, Wine Buyers
13% alcohol

This wine is young and pale and oh-so-elegant. It’s perfumed and floral with layers of flavour and made exclusively from the local Mazuelo grape. With only 5,000 bottles produced in 2019, it’s a rarity that will bring you summer sipping joy!

The intense fruity one…

Muga Rosado, 2019, £12.99, Majestic
13.5% alcohol

Pale pink, reminiscent of a late summer sunset, this is a silky smooth wine from Muga, one of Rioja’s most treasured producers. Made mainly from the Garnacha grape, it is intense and fruity with waves of mandarin peel, apricot and strawberries. Like the best summer fruit salad you ever had!

The dreamy peachy one…

CVNE Monopole Rosado, 2019, £11.50, Noble Green Wines and other independents
Suitable for vegans. 13% alcohol.

CVNE (pronounced Coonay) makes one of Rioja’s most admired yet accessible rosados. It is a soft aromatic blend using a white grape, Viura together with Rioja’s most revered red grape, Tempranillo. This wine delivers charismatic layers of dreamy peach, zesty citrus and rich berries and is utterly delightful.
