The Heritage of Château d’Issan

Château d’Issan is a Third Growth of the 1855 Imperial Classification. The wine is made from old vines in the Château d’Issan enclosure in the middle of the Margaux appellation. The soil is mainly surface gravel over a clay subsoil, which contributes to optimal ripeness and freshness in their two grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Tasting Notes: The 2010 Vintage

There is a degree of richness to instantly adore with the 2010 vintage. This glorious wine of the Margaux appellation presents a subtle and deep nose, with an attack on the palate that’s broad and generous. Yet the wine itself is ample and powerful whilst still maintaining a coated finish, which is typical of the great Margaux wines.

With luscious colouring and depth to mirror winter berries (blackberries, stewed plums) partnered with a refreshing earthy finish, you’re left with an opulent medium- to full-bodied wine.

This wine will drink well over the next 10–20 years and is an exceptional vintage for d’Issan. D’Issan’s owner, Emmanuel Cruse, is on hand to bring a bit of Bordeaux buzz to the New Year, with the help of this divine warming wintery red.

Château d’Issan expresses the exquisite bouquet so characteristic of Margaux, and stands out with its suppleness, subtlety, elegance, and long keeping potential that come from its unique terroir. Château d’Issan is aged in barrels for 16 to 18 months, half of which are new. Annual production is around 100,000 bottles.
