Cape Country Routes’ newest member, South Hill Vineyards, is situated on the south-eastern side of the beautiful Elgin Valley close to the town of Grabouw—a 60-minute drive south of Cape Town. Owned by the King family, this boutique wine farm creates ‘cool taste experiences’. With pristine vineyards producing top-quality cool-climate grapes and wines, luxury ‘farm-stay’ accommodation, a restaurant serving delicious bistro-style country meals, an art gallery, and spaces for weddings and personalised functions, it delivers perfectly.

Luxury Accommodation Options

The 4-star South Hill Vineyards offers two luxury accommodation options: six luxurious en-suite rooms in the Guest House, and the secluded, intimate, and romantic one-bedroom Honeymoon Cottage, The Pumphouse, which overlooks a beautiful farm dam, mountains, and the Pinot vineyards. The Guest House’s communal open-plan living/dining area features comfortable lounge seating, DSTV, a fully equipped kitchen, underfloor heating, and a fireplace. French doors open onto spacious lawns—perfect for croquet, children and dogs to play, or savouring a glass of South Hill wine.

The House Boat

The latest addition is the House Boat—an original Langebaan houseboat now permanently moored on the banks of the farm’s largest dam. Newly restored in chic Scandi style, it is off-grid, self-catering, and equipped with all amenities. Sleeping up to eight, it is ideal for a water-based family holiday, getaway with friends, or romantic retreat. There is also a swimming pool and an established boule court.

Restaurant and Art Gallery

The restaurant offers breakfasts and country-style lunches and suppers by request—generous, delicious country platters and tapas with homemade breads and relishes. All ingredients are sourced from local suppliers and the kitchen’s own herb and vegetable garden. South Hill wines, sold at cellar-door prices, can be enjoyed at the table or taken home. Sharing the space is an art gallery featuring an eclectic collection of contemporary artworks by established and emerging South African artists. Open seven days a week from 08:00 until 16:00, with wine tastings and art viewings until 17:00.

Events and Functions

With lush gardens, big skies, and expansive lawns in summer, plus intimate indoor spaces with fireplaces in winter, South Hill is perfect for destination weddings. It also provides a unique workspace for conferences, meetings, and workshops for up to 50 delegates.
