Sumosan Twiga – an experience that delights the London party scene
Stylish Knightsbridge bar and restaurant Sumosan Twiga brings the DJ and dance music to accompany the delicious double dish options (Italian and Japanese). This is an experience suited to chic party-loving attendees looking for a delightful dining or brunch experience.
Arrival and Ambiance
Set over three floors, Sumosan Twiga combines Asian and Italian food from international favourites Japanese staple Sumosan and the Italian Twiga.
When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and made to feel special, with the bar staff on call to cater to your every whim. That said, they are also friendly enough for the dining experience not to feel false, and if they don’t know the perfect drink, the mixologist drops by to talk through your flavour palate (a real plus).
The table is neatly tucked into the corner with a snazzy display of fashion and architecture books behind it and gorgeous lighting, perfect for a good Instagram snap or five.
Standout Dishes
I can’t deny that the burrata with “datterino” tomatoes was one of the most delicious I’ve ever tasted; this dish took me straight back to Lake Como 2018, which isn’t just something any dish can do.
The wasabi prawns with mango and golden passion fruit knocked me straight back into London—a little eye-watering but delicious nonetheless. We also sampled the gyoza duck confit with ponzu, which was delicious, yet my mind wanders back to the star of the plate… that burrata.
Next on the menu was the black truffle ravioli, which was just heaven on the tastebuds. I’m a huge fan of Italian; you can’t go wrong with fresh pasta, sage and butter—it hit the spot! The selection of handmade sushi rolls came out next but was slightly underwhelming after the burrata and ravioli; the Italian was very much the front runner.
About Sumosan Group
Well known for its acclaimed offering of Japanese and Italian food, the first Sumosan restaurant opened in Moscow in 1997, by Alexander Wolkow and his daughter Janina. From a small sushi bar, it grew into a restaurant of over 300 covers serving contemporary Japanese food and was integral to popularising Japanese cuisine in the capital. Sumosan now has restaurants all over the world, including Buba by Sumosan—a casual diffusion of the mother brand—Sumosan Twiga in London, and Sumosan restaurants in Moscow, Dubai, Courchevel, Berlin, Montenegro and Monaco.
