David Chang was born in Taipei, Taiwan. After moving to the U.S. with his parents, he later went on to study Interior Architecture in the U.S. and Canada. He achieved degrees in Fine Art at El Camino College in Los Angeles, an honours degree at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Vancouver, Canada, and a degree in Interior Architecture at California State University in Long Beach.

As if this wasn’t enough, David then completed a Visual Art graduate certificate programme at Harvard University. In 1998, David established David Chang Design Associates International Ltd. (DCDA), where he offered a broad base of expertise in the fields of planning, design, FF&E procurement, and execution of residential and hospitality interiors. In 2006, David expanded his legacy and entered the Chinese market by establishing offices in Guangzhou, Beijing, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Wuxi.

With a team of over 100 professional designers and supporting staff, DCDA provides their clients with space planning, interior design, and soft furnishing services for major players in the Chinese real estate and development sector, where completed projects are very popular, as well as for their private clients. Thoughtful Layout and Space Planning

Careful consideration was given to the layout and space of Beijing Grasse Town South Courtyard Show Villa, which features two floors underground and a further three floors above ground. Spaces were therefore divided into different areas according to the functions of the space, such as active, static, social, and private areas.

Key Features Across the Floors

The sub-basement is an area that can be used for many things such as a library, hobby room, or playroom—as can the garage. Meanwhile, the first floor and garden floor include a foyer, living room—which is open to the two floors above—a dining room, kitchen, and dressing room. The second floor features bedrooms for children and adults, as well as a communal interactive area where parents and children can socialise, while the third floor accommodates the master bedroom, which features a luxurious en suite bathroom.

Timeless Elegance in Design

Throughout, the space is light and white, enhanced by a common theme of neutrals such as white, cream, champagne, and taupe, accentuated by a variety of metallic shades and pale blues, which seamlessly blend and unify the entire interior, creating a feeling of timeless elegance. The exquisite one-of-a-kind chandeliers and light fittings are unique and most definitely a focal point in each room. The clever use of fabrics, repeated patterns, and texture, as well as the play of light and dark, all unite to create an ambience that is calm and restful, with a touch of French.
