It was seriously like stepping into the stylish streets of Italy: the décor, the aromas, the menu, the team, the wine, and the atmosphere.
Al Dente is the result of a group of friends with a passion for fresh pasta and authentic sauces, combined to create tasty dishes. They offer on-site signature pastificio, freshly made each day and distributed to their other locations. You will find Al Dente in South Kensington (the flagship restaurant), Fitzrovia, and Monument. We dined in the South Kensington restaurant and enjoyed a delicious feast of superb dishes, presented beautifully. The pasta was, of course, served al dente. We began with bruschetta al pomodoro—bread loaded with fresh cherry tomatoes, basil, and garlic—which was amazingly tasty. We also chose burrata and Parma ham; we shared both and they were perfect.
We had a short break while sipping a particularly fabulous bottle of Italian prosecco. My partner chose lasagne, and when I tell you he is extremely fussy, I mean really fussy—he likes it ‘moist’, and it was. I chose a traditional carbonara, which was rich and creamy, and the pasta was divine. I honestly do not think I have ever enjoyed a carbonara as much; I highly recommend it, but it was quite a large portion. I probably should have chosen a lighter starter!
We managed to share probably the most famous Italian dessert, tiramisu. It was presented in a glass jar and was simply stunning.
The price point for dining here is extremely competitive, and the fact that the food is heavenly and the team friendly is probably why, on a Tuesday evening, Al Dente was buzzing!
