The Relais Henley offers an ideal escape for those seeking both luxury and tranquillity in the heart of the picturesque town of Henley-on-Thames. We were truly looking forward to a chilled-out overnight stay at this gorgeous hotel. Sitting right on the river, this charming property is designed in the traditional English style with modern comforts, making it a wonderfully relaxing getaway.

Our stay in one of the deluxe rooms overlooking the river was nothing short of delightful. From the moment we entered the room, the beautiful view of the fast-flowing waters captivated us — the river was running high following torrential rain, which only added to the drama. The room itself was tastefully decorated with a cosy atmosphere. The soft furnishings, quality linens, and thoughtful details provided a luxurious yet homey feel. Watching boats gently drift along the river from the comfort of our room, a glass of bubbles in hand, created a wonderful sense of peace.

Dining

The dining experience at The Relais Henley was impressive. Our first stop was Henley Deli, conveniently attached to the hotel. Here, we enjoyed a casual and delicious lunch of toasties that were full of flavour and freshness. The bread was perfectly toasted, and the fillings were both generous and satisfying. We also indulged in their selection of home-baked cakes — coffee and walnut cake and carrot cake — both of which were divine, all washed down with perfectly executed iced lattes.

For dinner, we had the pleasure of dining at Restaurant Dominic Chapman, which exceeded our expectations in every way. The ambience was relaxed, the perfect setting for a superb meal. The menu featured a variety of options showcasing seasonal ingredients and traditional British choices, all presented with flair. Each dish was beautifully presented and packed with bold flavours. We chose the chilled gazpacho — one of my favourite starters — and the grilled sardines; both were simply divine. For mains, we opted for the seabass with a side of French fries, which was fresh and light and left just enough room for the apple crumble to finish. From starters to dessert, each course was a testament to the chef’s skill and his attention to detail.

The staff at The Relais Henley were warm and welcoming. From the moment we arrived, the attentive team went above and beyond to ensure we had a first-class experience. They were friendly, professional, and happy to assist with any request.
