Some places are so lovely that you’re planning your next re-visit before you’ve even packed the car… and Chalets Saunton is definitely one of them.

We’ve just come home from the most wonderful stay, and honestly, I’m not sure we were quite ready to leave. From the moment we arrived, it felt like we’d hit the chill button on our crazy, busy life. No rushing around,  and just beautiful surroundings, fresh sea air and those incredible views that somehow you would never tire of. These must surely be the best panoramic views in the whole of the West Country, and I lost count of how many times one of us said, “Just look at that!” while gazing out towards the coast.

The location really couldn’t be better. Saunton Sands is one of my favourite UK beaches, and it’s easy to see why. The golden sand stretches for miles, the waves are mesmerising, and whether you’re a surfer, a paddleboarder, or simply someone who enjoys a long walk with an ice cream in hand, there’s something so relaxing about being there. We spent hours wandering along the shoreline, with our four-legged friend, watching the surfers and simply enjoying the fact that there was nowhere else we’d rather be. It’s the kind of beach that makes you slow down and appreciate the simple things, and it’s so easily accessible from the apartment, via a cliff path, so no reparking of your car; this is a huge bonus! It’s also worth noting that this beach is dog-friendly all year round. Our cockerpoo loved it; it’s very shallow and perfect for both dogs and children.

If golf is your thing, you’ll be in heaven. Having the famous Saunton Golf Club right on your doorstep is just amazing. We couldn’t help but admire, from our apartment terrace, the stunning course and its amazing setting; it’s hard to imagine many golf courses with a better backdrop than the North Devon coastline.

We also loved exploring the surrounding villages. Braunton has such a friendly feel, with lovely independent shops, cafés and bakeries that are impossible to resist. We may have stopped for “just a coffee” more than once… purely in the interests of research, of course! Croyde is full of character with its laid-back surf vibe, while Woolacombe is another beautiful spot that’s well worth visiting. Everything is close enough to explore without spending ages in the car, which meant every day felt relaxed rather than rushed.

The apartment itself was exactly what we hoped for. Spotlessly clean, comfortable and really well equipped, it felt welcoming from the moment we walked through the door. It had everything we needed and more, making it easy to settle in straight away. After a day of beach walks and exploring, it was the perfect place to put our feet up, enjoy a drink and simply soak up the peaceful surroundings.

One of my favourite moments each day was sitting with a morning coffee, taking in the view and listening to the birds before the day got started. It’s amazing how quickly you settle into holiday mode here. Before long, we weren’t checking our phones or watching the clock; we were simply enjoying being together and making the most of such a beautiful part of North Devon.

Our ground floor apartment had 3 bedrooms, one with an in-room bath, toilet and sink, and there was also a family bathroom, with a huge, powerful waterfall shower. The open plan sitting, dining and kitchen area was furnished with high-quality pieces, enough for six people. The kitchen featured every single item you could ever need, and there was even a small Egg BBQ. Sadly, we ran out of time and didn’t get to use the Egg, but maybe on our next visit…

The outside area is a terrace overlooking the beach and the golf course from high up, with outside seating, perfect for that morning coffee or evening tipple.  What makes Chalets Saunton so special is that there is an apartment to suit everyone.

You can fill your days with beach walks, surfing, golf, exploring pretty villages or finding great places to eat. Or you can do absolutely nothing at all except admire the view, and somehow that feels just as productive.

We came home with sandy shoes, rosy cheeks, a camera full of photos and that lovely feeling you only get after a proper break. It’s the kind of place that leaves you feeling refreshed, recharged and already wondering when you can return. If you’re looking for breathtaking views, an incredible beach, fantastic golf, pretty villages and a super-relaxing place to stay, I honestly can’t recommend Chalets Saunton highly enough.

We’ll definitely be back, and next time, I think we’ll stay even longer and maybe even bring our family, or maybe not!
