Luxuria Reviews Le Jadis Beach Resort & Wellness, Mauritius
Tucked away in a secluded spot overlooking Turtle Bay on the northwest coast of Mauritius, Le Jadis Beach Resort & Wellness is an intimate, romantic retreat with just 54 spacious suites and the expansive Imperial Beach Villa. Managed by Banyan Tree, the resort prioritises privacy, tranquillity and wellbeing.
The resort’s thatched buildings with cream walls huddle around a central pool and towering tropical palms, where weaver birds busily build their hanging nests.
Inside, the suites feature dark, polished wood. Many have their own pool, heated to a toasty temperature, the perfect spot for evenings gazing out at the ocean as fruit bats swoop overhead. If you really can’t tear yourself away from your pool, the hotel can deliver a floating breakfast basket to your suite – it’s a beautiful way to start the day.
If you can, it is worth opting for an Oceanfront or Beachfront Luxury Pool Suite. They have more generous living spaces, chunky stone baths, spacious terraces and sea views. For families or groups, the Imperial Beach Villa is a good choice – it offers up to four bedrooms, a private pool, showers that double as hammams and a spacious veranda. It also has a fully equipped kitchen and comes with butler service. It sits at the very front of the resort, directly on the beach.
From the beach, you can see ships queuing to enter the harbour at Port Louis. The beach is small but well cared for, and guests who want to get out on the water can organise a trip in the hotel’s catamaran or borrow a paddleboard or kayak from the boathouse.
For many guests, the spa is a major part of the resort experience. At its centre is an extraordinary hydrotherapy pool with a multitude of jets and spouts of water. Here you can lie back, be massaged by the water and gaze up at the sky. The wellness offering extends beyond the treatment rooms, with activities such as yoga, meditation, sound healing and stretching. One of the highlights of our stay was a family yoga session on the beach before breakfast.
The main restaurant, Sylea, serves European and Mauritian cuisine, with locally caught fish a particular highlight. Oryza specialises in Asian-inspired dishes. Passion Creole is the spot for a casual lunch, with tables and chairs set either in the sand or in the water at one end of the main pool. There is something very relaxing about nibbling on a pizza while dangling your feet in the water, although I couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for the waiting staff wading back and forth.
Children are welcome, although there is no kids’ club and, with its emphasis on romance, the hotel is ultimately best suited to couples.
The resort appeals to guests who want to step away from the demands of everyday life rather than fill every moment with activity. Here, relaxation comes easily – whether in a private pool overlooking the ocean, an unhurried breakfast on your terrace, a spa treatment, or a quiet evening on the beach.
