A Little London Escape: The Body Sculpt at 5 Cavendish
I’m always intrigued by wellness spaces that manage to feel genuinely relaxing before you’ve even had your treatment, and 5 Cavendish certainly falls into that category.
Tucked away in St John’s Wood, just a couple of minutes from the busy St John’s Wood High Street and a short walk from the world-renowned Lord’s Cricket Ground, 5 Cavendish feels surprisingly peaceful for such a central spot. Parking is also available, which is a definite bonus when you’re heading into London for a treatment and don’t want the added stress of finding somewhere to leave the car.
The first thing I noticed on arrival was how homely it feels. Rather than walking into a typical clinical-looking beauty or wellness clinic, you feel as though you’ve been welcomed into someone’s beautiful, cosy London home. I was greeted with a cup of tea and shown into a living room-style space, which immediately made me feel comfortable and completely at ease. There’s no busy reception area, lots of people coming and going, or clinical feel; it’s quiet, intimate, and very personal.
I visited on a particularly rainy day, which made the total experience even better. With the rain coming down outside and the city carrying on around me, being tucked away inside somewhere warm and cosy felt like exactly where I wanted to be. It’s that feeling of being able to completely shut the outside world off for an hour, without actually having to leave London.
I was there to experience the Body Sculpt, a 90-minute lymphatic drainage and contouring treatment using the Renata França Method. I’ve had various massages and treatments over the years, but I particularly enjoy anything that leaves me feeling lighter and less sluggish, so I was very keen to see what this one would be like.
The treatment is designed to stimulate the lymphatic system, help reduce fluid retention and improve circulation, while also giving the body a more sculpted appearance. The technique is quite different from a traditional relaxing massage, with more purposeful, rhythmic movements and a real sense that something is happening throughout.
For me, one of the nicest things about it was that it didn’t feel like I was lying there waiting for the hour to pass. The movements were rhythmic and methodical, and I could really feel the difference as the treatment progressed. Something about the combination of the firmer technique and the still surroundings seemed extremely satisfying. I found myself properly switching off, which isn’t always easy when you have a head full of work and the usual London noise outside.
By the end, I felt noticeably lighter and refreshed, but also very relaxed. It’s one of those treatments where you leave feeling as though you’ve done something genuinely good for your body, rather than having had an hour of pampering. I also loved that the experience wasn’t rushed. The entire visit, from being welcomed with tea to settling into the treatment itself, felt calm and considered.
And that is what really stood out to me about 5 Cavendish. The treatment is obviously a huge part of the experience, but so is the environment. There’s something very lovely about being somewhere that feels so personal and unhurried. It doesn’t feel like a big, impersonal wellness centre where you could be anywhere in the world. It has a real sense of place and feels much more like you’ve discovered a little local secret.
Being just off the High Street makes it especially convenient, too. You can be in the middle of the bustle of St John’s Wood one minute and, a couple of minutes later, be behind the doors of 5 Cavendish in complete peace. Add in the fact that Lord’s is practically on the doorstep and that there’s parking available, and it’s surprisingly easy to get to for somewhere that feels so tucked away.
I deeply appreciated the cosiness because of the weather on the day I visited. There’s something rather nice about arriving somewhere warm, being handed a cup of tea and knowing you have an hour ahead of you where nobody demands anything from you. By the time I left, the rain was still coming down, but I felt completely refreshed rather than bothered by it.
If you’re looking for lymphatic drainage treatment in London, I’d definitely put 5 Cavendish on your list. The Body Sculpt is a lovely option if you want something that combines the physical benefits of lymphatic drainage and contouring with the relaxation you’d expect from a really good massage.
For me, though, it was the whole experience that made it. The beautiful setting, the extremely welcoming feel, the cup of tea, the quietness and that wonderful feeling of being temporarily removed from London, despite being right in the heart of it.
Sometimes you don’t need a weekend away to reset properly. Sometimes it’s quite simply a Body Sculpt at 5 Cavendish that’s required.
