Chotto Matte – Japanese-Peruvian cuisine in an electric atmosphere
Arrival and First Impressions at Chotto Matte Marylebone
From the moment we arrived at the new branch of Chotto Matte, the Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant, we noticed the stylish vibe of this recently opened Marylebone venue. Set in a contemporary architectural space, we were excited to experience the innovative Nikkei cuisine and cocktails, of course!
Exceptional Service and Cocktail Selection
Once seated, we were greeted by a wonderful waitress who took excellent care of us throughout the meal. Flowing cocktails and beautiful plates passing to other diners made us want to try everything. She offered to recommend and choose dishes for us, leaving us in for a surprise and very excited.
We perused the cocktail menu and selected a Flor de Manzana, with its tropical, zesty flavour perfect for summer. We also chose a Kakigori frozen cocktail featuring Haku Vodka, lychee, and crispy raspberry—both were delicious.
Starters and Savoury Highlights
Padron Peppers and Argentinian Red Prawn Truffles
The first dish was a lovely portion of Padron peppers, marinated in miso, perfectly seasoned with immense flavour, and cooked to perfection—ideal to start the meal. We were excited for the mains after this delight.
We were blown away by the Argentinian Red Prawn Truffles, filled with truffled shiitake mushrooms and spring onion. The flavours blossomed in our mouths—one of the best dishes we have ever eaten. I highly recommend it!
Kingfish Nikkei Sashimi and Black Cod Aji Miso
Two more beautiful dishes arrived: the light yet flavour-packed Kingfish Nikkei Sashimi, perfectly balanced by the Black Cod Aji Miso. Chotto Matte triumphed again—this plate melted in our mouths, perfectly cooked and tender, with an outstanding miso chilli marinade.
Main Course Finale and Irresistible Desserts
Our last savoury dish was Dragon Roll Sushi, accompanied by a fire gun—an exciting end. We made room for desserts and recommend sharing two: Coconut Sakura and a magical chocolate ball.
Coconut Sakura featured coconut sorbet encircled in a coconut biscuit. The waitress used a steel grinder for the amarena cherry salsa, presented stylishly. Crunchy biscuit, sorbet, and salsa created tastebud heaven.
The chocolate ball was irresistible: warm white sesame sauce poured over melted it to reveal black sesame ice cream on treacle cake. Amazing flavours and clever presentation.
Final Thoughts
With delicious food and outstanding service all evening, we highly recommend Chotto Matte. For an experience of excellent Nikkei cuisine and impeccable service, this is the place. We will definitely return.
