Cotswold House Hotel & Spa – beyond perfection
Arrival at Cotswold House Hotel & Spa
Cotswold House Hotel & Spa in Chipping Campden is a stylish and sophisticated Grade II listed townhouse. This beautiful boutique hotel features an elegant façade leading to the reception area, where we were warmly greeted like old returning friends. An added bonus: they offer their own safe parking at the rear of the hotel for guests.
A Perfectly Delightful Suite
We checked in and settled into our perfectly delightful suite. It was a beautiful, typically English country-style space. The bedroom was warm and cosy with soft bedding, romantic lighting, and a huge super king-size bed. The bathroom featured not only a very spacious waterfall shower but probably the biggest bath I have ever seen, in which we enjoyed a chilled bottle of bubbly while soaking in other bubbles—the perfect pre-dinner preparation.
Scrumptious Afternoon Tea
Before all of this, we were treated to my favourite pastime: afternoon tea. It was truly scrumptious. The presentation of the sweet and savoury goodies was elegant—a visual treat—and the flavours of the delicate sandwiches and wraps were perfect. The sweet selection of scones and pastries was just superb. The tea selection was presented to us in a box to enjoy the aromas before making our choice. We indulged in a glass of chilled champagne to perfectly complement the afternoon tea, and we savoured every minute.
Exploring Picturesque Chipping Campden
To walk off the tea and make room for our evening meal in The Fig Bistro, we went for a walk around the lovely, picturesque Chipping Campden. There were plenty of artisanal coffee houses, tea rooms, bistros, farm shops, gourmet restaurants, museums, and stunning architecture to enjoy.
Relaxation in the Spa
We returned to our lovely suite, had a quick change, and ventured to the spa, featuring a super little indoor pool and socially distanced loungers, where we waited to be called for our massages. The spa runs like clockwork—highly efficient, clean, and very stylish. Our treatments using one of my favourite brands, Decleor, were fabulous: 30 minutes of heaven delivered by extremely experienced and knowledgeable therapists. Following this super-relaxing hour or so, we returned to our suite.
Exquisite Dining at The Fig Bistro
The day just continued to get better and better. We were booked for dinner at 8:30 pm in The Fig, a comfortable and inviting bistro. We began with a cocktail while we perused the simple but very tasty menu. We made perfect choices: a crab and crayfish starter, followed by a fillet steak with all the trimmings and a creamy, rich risotto. We finished with a highly calorific chocolatey dessert and coffee. The food and service were exemplary—faultless.
A Restful Night and Hearty Breakfast
After a restful night’s sleep, we took full advantage of a really lovely full English breakfast, pastries, yoghurts, granola, steaming hot coffee, and freshly squeezed orange juice.
Final Thoughts: 100% Perfection
It is not often you stay in a hotel—whether it is four or five stars, a large hotel group, or a boutique hotel—that you can say your stay is completely perfect, without flaws. But Cotswold House Hotel & Spa is exactly that. I cannot express how much we enjoyed our brief visit; it was 100% perfection. We will definitely return.
