equatorsun Clothing Review: Intelligent Sun Protection

When our family decided to spend five weeks in the Indian Ocean islands to research some travel articles I was writing, I knew top-quality sun protection would be essential, especially for our children aged three and eight. My heart sank at the thought of having to slather suncream all over a reluctant toddler several times a day, and I was particularly worried about my older son who had been left with very sun-sensitive skin after years of chemotherapy to treat leukaemia. I came across equatorsun online and instantly recognised the type of high-quality sun-protection swimsuits we were familiar with from years of living in Australia.

A heatwave in the UK gave us the chance to try out our new equatorsun children’s full-body sunsuits before we left. They were brilliant. I ordered more children’s swimwear, plus rash vests for the grown-ups. We are now coming to the end of our time in the Indian Ocean, and we have virtually lived in our equatorsun clothing. The swimsuits and hats have been invaluable on beach days, on boat trips, while snorkelling and kayaking, while the UV polo shirts have kept us protected from both sun and mosquitoes while exploring markets and nature reserves.

Our equatorsun clothing has been in hotel pools, the ocean and even slid down river rocks while canyoning in Reunion Island. It has stood up to all the rigorous testing of a very active family adventure. The clothing is exceptionally comfortable (there is no way my toddler would wear it if it wasn’t), and knowing that the UPF50+ material protects from 98% of harmful UV rays gives great peace of mind.

I love that the brand was founded in Britain with a mission inspired by a family’s experience with melanoma. In 2006, Annette was diagnosed with melanoma and turned her misfortune into something positive by searching for a way of making sun protection more accessible. Sadly, Annette passed away in 2009, but her family is proudly continuing her mission. Today, equatorsun’s collections include swimwear, hats, and activewear for adults and children, all engineered to provide certified UPF 50+
protection.

Design & Comfort

One of equatorsun’s greatest strengths is its ability to make technical clothing feel wearable. The garments are thoughtfully designed to remain comfortable even in high temperatures, oXering full coverage without feeling restrictive. The fabrics are exceptionally lightweight, breathable, quick-drying, and soft against the skin, making them ideal for activities like sailing, golf, hiking, or simply enjoying long summer days by the pool.

Performance

The clothing carries a certified UPF 50+ rating, providing consistent UV protection without the need for repeated sunscreen application on covered areas. The protection is woven directly into the fabric rather than relying on chemical coatings, helping to maintain effectiveness over time.

Value

Premium sun-protective clothing naturally commands a higher price than conventional beachwear. equatorsun uses specialist fabrics, rigorous testing, durable construction, and timeless styling that encourages repeated wear season after season. These comfortable and versatile garments represent a long-term investment in your health. Viewed in this way, the range offers excellent value for money.

Verdict

equatorsun successfully bridges the gap between technical performance and style. Its UPF 50+ clothing provides exceptional protection while maintaining an elegant aesthetic suited to discerning travellers and active lifestyles.

Whether relaxing on a Mediterranean yacht, exploring tropical coastlines, or enjoying an afternoon on the golf course, the collection offers a refined, safe and practical way to embrace the outdoors with confidence.
