From Giant Tortoises to Darwin’s Finches’ in the Galápagos Islands

Led by expert wildlife guides, a rare photographic journey through the Galápagos Islands unfolds. A part of the world where giant tortoises, marine iguanas, and Darwin’s finches roam across volcanic landscapes and pristine seas. This immersive journey into one of the most biologically unique places on Earth is more than just a traditional tour. Hosted by Galapagos Safari Camp, the pioneer of the luxury tented camp concept in Latin America, these explorations are where photography, conservation, and close observation of wildlife come together in a single, carefully curated experience.

With two departure dates in October and November of this year, the two small-group Photography Safaris present wildlife enthusiasts with a fully guided photographic expedition. Groups of guests are guided by acclaimed wildlife photographer and conservation biologist Lucas Bustamante, alongside an official Galápagos naturalist, on a six-night itinerary through the wonders of the Galápagos.

As the safari camp is in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island, it is the perfect spot to move through carefully selected sites across Santa Cruz Island. This sanctuary in the Galápagos Islands is a family-owned luxury tented camp ideal for travellers seeking an unhurried, meaningful way to experience the Galapagos. Here, the rhythm of the week is set by nature rather than routine, allowing it to shed light on the beauty of this magical part of the world. Each day is designed around light, wildlife activity, and conditions, offering time to observe, wait, and photograph rather than rush from one stop to the next. Along the way, participants have opportunities to capture both terrestrial and marine life, including snorkelling sessions in the renowned Galápagos Marine Reserve, one of the most biologically diverse protected ocean areas in the world.

Wildlife encounters here are never scripted, but they are often extraordinary. Walking through the volcanic grasslands, you may spot giant tortoises moving slowly by, and later in the day, see marine iguanas warming themselves on black lava rock. In the waters, sea lions seem to dance with the currents while sea turtles glide past volcanic reefs. Above the shoreline, blue-footed boobies dive with precision, frigatebirds patrol the skies, and Darwin’s finches flit between branches in search of food.

What sets this experience apart is not only the wildlife but the flexibility of time. While visits to uninhabited islands are regulated by the Galápagos National Park and follow strict schedules, time on Santa Cruz Island allows for a more fluid approach. Photographers are encouraged to linger when the light shifts, to wait for behaviour to unfold, and to return to compositions when conditions improve. This contrast between structured access and creative freedom makes it possible to balance exploration with artistry in a way few group expeditions can offer.

Back at Galapagos Safari Camp, evenings become a time for reflection and creative growth. In relaxed, collaborative workshops, the group reviews the day’s images, discusses composition and field decisions, and explores simple editing techniques to enhance storytelling. With no fences separating the Camp from the surrounding highlands, animal sightings become part of your stay. Across its 55 hectares of private land, guests are also free to explore independently, experimenting with long exposures under star-filled skies.

The 2026 departures are scheduled for October 5–10 and November 17–22, with booking deadlines in July and August, respectively. Pricing begins at USD $6,131 per person for groups of ten or more, including luxury tented accommodation, all meals, VIP airport services, guided photography instruction, and exclusive boat charters.

From curious beginners to experienced image-makers seeking refinement, this journey offers time and a place where evolution is still visible in daily life. A landscape where giant tortoises, marine iguanas, and Darwin’s finches still define the rhythm of the wild.
