Home House – London’s most iconic member club

Let me tell you, being invited to review one of London’s finest, most in-demand members’ clubs, was quite the honour when their membership is so sought after, and they have a waiting list almost as long as my arm. With a full individual membership starting at £2,250 for the year, it was a truly memorable experience to become part of the Home House family for a beautiful Friday summer’s night in the city.

Stately, eccentric and quintessentially British are the three words I would opt for when describing Home House. Established in the 18th century, Home House is named after the notorious Countess of Home who had originally commissioned George III’s architect, James Wyatt, to build her a sophisticated palace for pleasure and entertainment. Today, Home House hosts a collection of characters and individuals spread across three exquisite Georgian townhouses, featuring an exceptional range of facilities, including restaurants, bars and lounges, a well-groomed private garden, elegant bedrooms, and a state-of-the-art gym.

Each of the 23 rooms tells a unique story and is oh so sophisticated, calling attention to the shimmering gold ceilings and hand-painted silk wallpaper. The rooms vary from Feature Rooms to Suites with striking design features ranging from original Chinese Chi’en Lung paper, hand painted in delicious colours, to shimmering crystal chandeliers. The smaller, intimate Club Rooms are the perfect place for busy city goers to rest their heads after a busy day of meetings. Immersed with history, these rooms are as sumptuous as the rest of the property, simply on a smaller scale. The Lady Susan Thorpe Club Room for example, is decorated with sweet pea design wallpaper and cream upholstered grand sleigh bed. The bathroom is bright, cheerfully decorated with period patterned tiles, featuring an enclosed bath embellished with marine life taps. However, if you’re looking for an exceptionally special room, the properties Suites will quite honestly, blow you away. My favourite, The James Wyatt suite has its own private access via a lift and copious space between the rooms. The sitting room is decorated in muted shades of coffee and bronze plus, with a sound system installed, and is the perfect party suite. With a super King-size bed, gorgeous view of the garden, two separate bathrooms, and totaling 60SQ/M, this suite is one I will not be forgetting anytime soon.

May we suggest you immerse yourself in club life and do. Not. Leave. With everything you could possibly need and more, right there in the building, the busy streets of London seem very unappealing, despite being a 5-minute walk from Selfridges. Located in the basement of Home House, the Gym & Health Spa is a subterranean haven for members and hotel guests alike. The boutique but extensive and fully equipped gym offers state-of-the-art equipment along with a health spa including a sauna, steam room, relaxation room, and an impressive fitness class timetable. Post workout and outfit change, head to The Bison Bar for some pre-dinner cocktails and sit back, relax, and watch as the beautiful club members flow through the bar, ready to kick off their weekend. With an impressive list of Champagnes, wines by the glass and classic cocktails, the Bison Bar is the perfect spot for pre and post-dinner drinks or after-party nightcaps in sumptuous and smart surroundings. An all-day menu of delicious light bites will see you through the day as dusk falls, from West Mersea Oysters to Buttermilk fried chicken and House favourites such as the Club Sandwich. Often playing host to spontaneous revelry, the Bison Bar oozes a relaxed elegance with luxurious velvet textures, warm ambient lighting, and regular exhibitions of stunning artworks. Alternatively, inspired by historic embassies around the world and the heritage of House 21 as a former “legation”, the House Bar’s design draws on the freedom and self-indulgence that comes with uninhibited travel. This space encourages members and guests to relax, let go and be themselves.

Now the private Garden is the real showstopper of the property. Enveloped in beautiful flowers blooming in every colour under the sun, the stunning garden was the beating heart of the club on this fine Friday evening. Designed by their in-house florist and good friend Rosemary, it’s a shower of the prettiest flowers including purple wisteria with a spray of Naranja orange roses, cerise peonies and rose-pink Elizabeth double-headed roses. Every weekend, during al-fresco season, the club host a gourmet BBQ menu, featuring delectable sourdough pizzas, summer salads and succulent meats and fish. If you would be so kind as to let me tailor your menu to you, I would thoroughly recommend; to start, Cobble Lane Bresaola – parmesan, toasted hazelnuts, rocket, and truffle vinaigrette. For mains, either the Truffle Burrata Sour Dough Pizza or King Prawns with Chilli and Garlic.

To conclude your evening, it would be a huge shame if you didn’t venture down to House21 open from 6 pm – 3 am every Wednesday to Saturday, the perfect spot for an evening of indulgent revelry.

Serving up luscious small plates and delightful cocktails alongside late-night DJs, the menu takes inspiration from the House’s long history of welcomed international guests across the globe. Head down to House 21 to revel in an exciting lineup of entertainment until the early hours.

Home House offers a range of memberships to suit all requirements. The full individual membership is split into over and under 35s (under being priced marginally lower). Furthermore, there is a social membership at just over half the price of a full membership, which permits access to the property all weekend and after 6 pm on weeknights. If you are interested in applying for membership, please head over to their website and express your interest by completing the membership application.
