Hotel Kösslerhof St Anton am Arlberg, Austria – a luxury home away from home

There’s nothing like the snow and mountains to clear the mind and bring about a sense of freedom, it’s the fresh clean mountain air.

We were incredibly lucky in mid-December 2022 to be invited to stay for a few days at the gorgeous 4-star Kösslerhof Hotel in St Anton am Arlberg, Austria. The hotel is conveniently situated just a two-minute walk to the slopes, and incredibly well placed for the regular bus ride into the town centre, where there are dozens of beautiful shops, cafés and restaurants, perfect in fact.

The hotel is an authentic and stunning boutique family-run affair, with friendly warm hospitality and a laid-back vibe which is the most important ethos of the Kösslerhof team.  The attention to detail in the main dining area and in the hotel rooms was stunning, featuring high-quality materials, soft lighting, and warm colours creating a cozy home-from-home luxury atmosphere.

As we arrived and checked in, it was ‘tea time’ and a lovely display of tea and cakes greeted us, most welcome following our journey from London to St Anton via Zurich.

Once unpacked and went to explore the town, it is a typically quaint and stylish town with classy ski boutiques, and so much more.

We came back to Kösslerhof in time for our gastronomical 5-course evening meal, this was the deal each night, and every evening we managed each wonderful course, and the chef created some of the most delicious dishes. There were three set starter courses, followed by a choice of two main courses and a dessert, all washed down with recommended pairing wines or soft drinks.

The hotel has probably the most luxurious spa areas of any 4-star hotel we’ve visited, the attention to detail within the spa and actually throughout the hotel is unbelievable. The spa has infra-red heated seats to ease those ski-created aches and pains, a sauna, a sanarium, and a beautiful restroom with soft fluffy blankets and a great mountain view. You can also book a massage if you feel the need after a hard day on the slopes.

The rooms are spacious and well designed, with some of the most comfortable beds we’ve ever slept in, with soft light cloud-like duvets. The shower room has a powerful shower, and toweling gowns and slippers were all supplied in abundance. We also had a balcony with fabulous mountain views.

Our ski equipment was stored in the basement ski room, easily accessible from the car park and main reception, ensuring our equipment was dry and ready for the next day’s skiing. You can also ski into town to the main lifts but this is icy in the chilly mornings before the sun has access to soften up the slopes.

Our day involved a great breakfast, continental but with eggs cooked to your choice, a variety of juices, tea, and coffee, followed by a five-minute bus ride to town, a few hours skiing followed by a well-deserved lunch in one of the many mountain restaurants, of which there are dozens to choose from, whether you need a quick hot dog and fries or a fine dining experience, it’s all there. After lunch maybe a little more skiing and back to the hotel for freshly baked cakes and cookies,  then a visit to the spa for a sauna to ease those aches, and finally the fine dining evening meal and bed.

I must add the slopes are well tended, the lifts are many and the runs are great, if a little tricky, this is not the resort for beginners, in my opinion, the blue runs are quite tough!
